I can't cheer for the Pats. I won't watch the game, either. It has to have some promise of being entertaining, and at this point I can't imagine being entertained. There is no outcome I care about, no player I'm interested in, no narrative that makes most of a Sunday worth the sacrifice. I am not even interested in watching the Pats lose if that happens to be the outcome. Let the NFL starve, this year is dead to me.

I think part of the reason I don't like the Pats is the vibe I get from Belichick. He is just so dour. I don't get the feeling there is fun or joy in the locker room. It is undeniably effective, and his coaching run deserves consideration with the greatest of all time. Truthfully the Super Bowl trophy should be renamed from Lombardi to Belichick. He is the master of detail, of getting his players to execute, not make mistakes, do their job.

Bill Walsh was a cerebral coach, but he knew how to break the tension. Before the 49'ers first Super Bowl he dressed up as a bellman to unload the team's luggage. I just don't see anything in Belichick other than the coach. Maybe the effort of being such a great coach has literally drained all the personality out of him, but there is nothing to hook onto as the happy warrior. When Red Auerbach coached down the road in Boston, he used to light a cigar when the Celtics had the game in the bag. Belichick just seem to lack joie de vire that would enable him to make a similar gesture. He doesn't strike me as the guy you would want making the toast at your daughter's wedding.

All he does is win, time after effing time.

As a player, I would rather suck it up for 24 weeks and work my tail off and win, year after year, vs having fun and losing. There is a new book out about Belichick and I heard it tells a different side of Belichick off the field, and that it is a act in front of the camera...I can't imagine being so committed, but you can't argue with the results.

I am tempted to pay the 15 bucks for the read

He's actually known for promoting stoicism, which I respect quite a bit. His demeanor isn't what bothers me. It would probably be unfair to say that deflategate and spygate are really as significant as the hype made them out to be, but there is always this sense with the Pats that they are looking for and exploiting loopholes with a win at all costs mentality. The tuck-rule game, calls that seem to get missed or called in their favor...everything that seems shady about them stands out more though I'm sure they are not really that different than most other teams. And yeah, Belichick seems to be able to turn anyone into a star running back or defensive safety. They are the one team where injuries pushing them deep into their bench never seem to change their trajectory.

But bleeh. Their winning the AFC pretty much ensured I won't be watching on Sunday.

Here is my only contribution. Superbowl Sunday is the best shopping day of the entire year! No one on the roads, no one in the stores, it's an introvert shopper's dream come flippin' true! I came home with a little haul just now. The experience was glorious!

I even like that you guys aren't on the board right now. No offense intended!

I got 2 new purses and a wreath. I hope your respective teams won because mine sure did!

That's a shame Honorentheos. I think you would have liked the first half. 3 points total.
