Sadly, no one ever argued for Ringo.
Ringo was my favorite Beatle! Why? Because the drummer drives the band and he wasn't pretty.
Jersey Girl Trivia: My first ever boyfriend was a drummer. I have photos of us in 6th grade. Me in my Carnaby St. knock offs and him in his Beatles suit (velvet lapels) and Beatle boots.
I was in girl heaven.
p.s. He was pretty though not in a traditional way. ;-)

What Wilson says there in the very beginning about songwriting in cycles and the songs blowing out of his chest. I can relate to that. That's exactly how I write. I write things that you folks have never seen because at their very core the experience and what it represents is too personal to display in public (hello introvert) but the OP is a quick and short example of that where thoughts pour out of me from beginning to end, in rapid flow, and follow a kind of sequential pattern that I don't believe I'm intentionally thinking about when it starts. I write pages upon pages that way sometimes and I usually don't edit my writing because I prefer it in raw form just the way it came out. It starts, I write until it's over, and there is a sense of release involved.
Odd little critter that I am.

Hey People I don't care if this thread derails at all, so do with it what you will. Writing the OP and laying my thoughts down in terms of trying to put the Beatles and our reception of them into historical context was enough for me so have at it.
I'm about to dart out of here anyway. Take it anywhere you want.

Ugh my post didn't submit and I already went and checked myself. Right on all counts!
I found this while I was checking. This is a German female drummer trying to explain what made Ringo a non-traditional drummer and why that also made him great.
Her basic premise is that you can identify the Beatle's songs by just hearing the drums. She's right! Found this kind of interesting and fun.
