An economic miracle is taking place in the United States, and the only thing that can stop it are foolish wars, politics, or ridiculous, partisan investigations. If there is going to be peace in legislation, there cannot be war and investigation. It just does not work that way.
Hmm...I'm sure people are going to asking for the President to elaborate...
Sometimes it's hard for me to know how the President is doing, because he never does very well with me, so I have to step back and imagine how he's doing with everyone else. It was a long speech, with kudos for WWII vets, concentration camp survivors and many truly heartfelt stories. I'll be curious to see some fact-checking, however. I think he did well in parts, but ultimately this was the world of the teleprompter, and we know the world of the teleprompter is not the world of the tweet.
There are bipartisan accomplishments: Legislation for the opiate crisis, and judicial sentencing reform. There may be areas were bipartisanship will be possible, and hopefully something can be done to avert another shutdown.
But there are some large divides in this country that were pretty obvious just from the demographic makeup of both sides of the aisle. I think there are some possible areas where there can be compromise, but ultimately not a lot changed tonight.
