Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Brilliantly Exposes Culture of Corruption.

Post by _Gunnar »

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez did a brilliant job of exposing the inherently corrupting influence made inevitable by unlimited corporate money in congress. Must See!

Exactly.

Despite having watched the video, which is about how a corrupt politician (she makes it simple for you by talking about a 'bad guy', did you notice?) could profit from the current law to fund their campaign, pay to suppress inconvenient news stories, get elected and then enrich themselves by exploiting their elected office, all of it quite legally, you have concluded that the object of her attack was not corrupt politicians and the law that allows them to act corruptly, but corporations.

Yup. A conclusion like that would only appeal to a moron.

I don't see how anyone could dispute how money and the corporations that supply it, in unlimited amounts, has a corrosive effect on politics, policy and laws. We need more people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to get the word out.

This is boilerplate complaints about special interest influence in American politics that politicians have been talking about for decades and decades. The word has been out for a while now. It arguably was the dominant theme of the 2000 election if you had to pick one. What's "brilliant" about it?

EA,

I don't think the word is out like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives want. Anyway, shouldn't we be allowed to talk about corruption even though it's been part of politics since the dawn of time? Perhaps "brilliant" isn't the right word. Maybe needed? Corps have their reps surrounding congress trying to push their agenda and they control the media. This should be discussed loudly and often.

It's one of the most popular issues when polled with the public and has been a major theme in politics for as long as I've been alive. There is a strong case that it was the single most important issue in a presidential election. I think you are confusing lack of satisfying action with lack of awareness.

Maybe popular but do people really know the extent of it or how it's been legalized like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez explained?

On the one hand, the average person's ignorance is so extensive that they most likely could not explain what a legislator even does. People know very little. But an Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez speech isn't fixing that. She isn't saying anything new and she's not saying it in away that is markedly different from general commentary on how special interests are able to influence policy to their benefit.

On the other, people have heuristics that already have given them a more or less accurate sense of how special interests, campaigning, and political corruption interacts. They don't like it and no politician ever lost votes on promising to do something about it - "drain the swamp" if you will.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez isn't bringing anything to the table here except that the media obsession with her as created a cult of personality that earns titles like, "brilliantly exposes."

Lol. The filter forces A-O-C into Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? What's next? If I type Beyonce is it going to appear Beyonce Knowles-Carter?
