I think it's more than that. We've always been poo throwers. Counterculture and contrarianism is pretty deeply embedded in our dna. So, now that the Left, actually the radical Left these days, have essentially got a stranglehold on our culture, Conservatism and the Alt-Right are the new cultural subversives. In a day and age where things like being a Christian, or believing in values like monogamy and not being a drug-addled slut earn you condemnation as a controlling patriarchal bigot, believing in and acting upon traditional values makes you the punk rocker flipping the bird to the establishment. It's no wonder the humorless moralists have found space within the politcally correct confines of SJW'ism and the absurdists have found refuge in the Right.

Yup. If one places people on a simplified left-right spectrum, it soon becomes clear that all you will get from the extreme right end of the line by way of humor is stuff like 'Here's a greedy Jew with a big nose, here's a stupid lazy black with big red lips talking in pseudo-dialect, here's a limp-wristed liberal student who drinks soy milk', and so on.
Anything more sophisticated than that is just too liable to be turned back on them. Too much laughter is potentially subversive of authority that the extreme right wants to remain unquestioned. Remember how early Mormons condemned 'loud laughter'?

I was going to mention how Leftists, because they're humorless moralists, are simply left with bullying others they feel are safe targets, and they use virtue as a sort of shield so they can scratch their inner-asshole itch, and here we are. They are left, no pun intended, with an SNL-esque parody humor or just straight up invective they've chosen to classify as humor. While the extreme Right deals in hateful stereotypes, it's not like the Left doesn't think that way either, they just chooose to mask their hatefulness in a different way. If the poundmetoo movement taught us anything, while the Left is pointing at the Right and humorlessly ree'ing, it's still guilty of the same exact sins.

I should note the cartoon above does make a good point. The kid who blew x-amouunt on a L.A. degree could've most likely achieved the same result by using the little computer in his hand and reading Wikipedia. A little discipline and curiosity will teach the average man as much as the kid who has a worthless piece of paper and a sense of privilege along with a mountain of debt.
