People often say that if Liberals think talk radio is so influential then they should get in on the racket too. Problem is, talk radio is for people who are on a low information diet and want to be told what they're supposed to be afraid of and upset about. Just this week a Conservative talk radio host was fired during his broadcast for speaking critical of Trump.

KNUS radio host Craig Silverman says he was taken off air mid-show after criticizing Trump

Craig Silverman, a former chief deputy district attorney in Denver and talk-show host on the conservative 710 KNUS radio station, said he was fired mid-show Saturday after criticizing President Donald Trump.

Silverman was in the middle of a segment about Roy Cohn, Trump’s former personal attorney, when he suddenly was interrupted by network news, he told The Denver Post.

Silverman’s producer threw his hands up in the air, indicating it wasn’t him.

Instead, program director Kelly Michaels came through the door.

“You’re done,” Silverman recounted Michaels as saying.

The former prosecutor, who has hosted “The Craig Silverman Show” from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays for more than five years, responded to the sudden firing on Twitter.

“I cannot and will not toe strict Trump party line. I call things as I see them,” he tweeted. “I see corruption and blatant dishonesty by President and his cronies. I also see bullying/smearing of American heroes w/courage to take oath and tell truth. Their bravery inspires me.”

Representatives from KNUS did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The page for Silverman’s show appears to have been removed from the station’s website. A link to his show gives a “404 Error — Not Found” message.

Silverman’s last segment of the hour, before he was taken off the air, was to “observe how toxic Trump is in Colorado,” he said in a text. “And to continue my show theme today that Democrats are making a strong case at the House impeachment hearing.”
"One of the hardest things for me to accept is the fact that Kevin Graham has blonde hair, blue eyes and an English last name. This ugly truth blows any arguments one might have for actual white supremacism out of the water. He's truly a disgrace." - Ajax

The Liberal version of talk radio is the snarky chattering bully pulpits like Real Time, the Daily Show, and Last Week Tonight. The difference, in my opinion, is talk radio deliberately peddles misinformation while the Liberal shows, despite being bullies, try to somewhat get at the truth. But make no mistake, they’ll defend their nonsense and controversial political stances just as viciously as the Right does.

I don't know. That's like saying the leftwing equivalent of an incel message board is college level coursework in women's studies. That elides so many important distinctions as to make the comparison worthless.

There are leftwing equivalents to right-wing media in terms of content, but they have such a marginal audience that the comparison seems to fail in that regard. The right wing versions of Louise Mensch are some of the most powerful people in the country. Louise Mensch is a joke among most liberals who know of her.

There's no real one-to-one comparison to be had. That's ends up being a problem because it ends up preying on people's fallacy of the golden mean instincts.

Uh, Air America was the attempt at that. It yielded some success for liberals, including electing one of its personalities US Senator, but it did suffer from the problem of not having near the scope of audience conservative AM radio can get.

Be careful. You’ll end up like me and so many others. I was a sh*t poster when I first went to /pol/ for some “epic Nazi trolling” and within a year I found I agreed with about half of what was discussed.
By the end of the second year I was indistinguishable from the rest. The terrible truth of /pol/ is that it’s liberating as it is horrific.

The true terror of browsing /pol/ for any length of time is not discovering the “evil within” but coming to realize the true nature of the “evil without” and that nearly everything society has told you about the world and about history is either a complete fabrication or a half-truth spun in such a way to force you to think in a manner that benefits a very particular group of people.

Imagine being blind for your entire life. Imagine listening to people with functioning vision talk about the way the world works, describing what things look like, and so on. Without any frame of reference, you would have little choice but to believe them.

Now imagine suddenly gaining the ability to see, and realizing not only that many of the people around you aren’t even human, but that those who most closely resemble you are also blind, and everything they’ve been telling you has merely been the parroting of things the putrid monsters overseeing them have whispered in their ears. You look at the world that you were told was full of beauty, and find only death, decay, and madness.

Welcome to /pol/, remember, you’re here forever.

When it comes to right-wing influence on the media, I think it's worth remembering that politically active conservative billionaires are willing to eat marginal profits, and even losses in some cases, to have a finger on the scales of media consumption. Wealthy leftwing activism through controlling media properties is a comparative drop in the bucket.

This doesn't replace the importance of right wing shock jock media having a naturally bigger audience, but I think that piece often gets forgotten in these type of conversations.

Why did I know EA would be right along to defend against the analogy, and offer up some obscure name no one cares about as a counterpoint?

Anyway.

John Oliver is ridiculously vulgar and an overcompensating bully, which is his deal. That’s fine. I watch him. While he’s an example of someone who I consider gets at the truth of certain systemic issues, he also has his ideological quirks and uses degeneracy as a go-to staple of his comedian-reporter shtick.

Also, apparently Smoke Pole can’t comprehend subtle nods to his lunacy and must be treated with a sledgehammer less he miss a point entirely.

That you think Louise Mensch is an obscure name no one cares about makes my point. That's one of the most popular people I can think of on the left that trades in what makes right-wing media what it is. There's your leftwing Sean Hannity. And she has a small enough footprint that you find it obnoxious to bring up.
