Undocumented Farm Workers Become "Essential"

Post by _Icarus »

"One of the hardest things for me to accept is the fact that Kevin Graham has blonde hair, blue eyes and an English last name. This ugly truth blows any arguments one might have for actual white supremacism out of the water. He's truly a disgrace." - Ajax

My mind is exploding with the irony...
It’s relatively easy to agree that only Homo sapiens can speak about things that don’t really exist, and believe six impossible things before breakfast. You could never convince a monkey to give you a banana by promising him limitless bananas after death in monkey heaven.

Just wow. Now before we all get excited, let us realize that FAQS is going to label this "fake news" as his hero politician usually does when things go against him.....I'm just sayin.

From the article (because I know it's unlikely a few of the Conservative posters would actually click on the link):

"Like legions of immigrant farmworkers, Nancy Silva for years has done the grueling work of picking fresh fruit that Americans savor, all the while afraid that one day she could lose her livelihood because she is in the country illegally.

But the widening coronavirus pandemic has brought an unusual kind of recognition: Her job as a field worker has been deemed by the federal government as “essential” to the country.

Ms. Silva, who has spent much of her life in the United States evading law enforcement, now carries a letter from her employer in her wallet, declaring that the Department of Homeland Security considers her “critical to the food supply chain.”

“It’s like suddenly they realized we are here contributing,” said Ms. Silva, a 43-year-old immigrant from Mexico who has been working in the clementine groves south of Bakersfield, Calif."

This is why years ago I wrote a few letters to my representatives, based really on our discussions here, recommending they create 'worker visas' for illegal immigrants where, if they come here, work, stay out of trouble for five years (to demonstrate good intent) then they ought to be given the right to apply for citizenship. I really don't see why that's a problem. They demonstrate good faith, and we return it. What we're doing to them is unconscionable, and it needs to change.

ironic in the sense that the Fed only offers guidelines for what a State may consider as "essential"?

From Homeland Security, a.k.a. Federal Government
This list is advisory in nature. It is not, nor should it be considered, a federal directive or standard. Additionally, this advisory list is not intended to be the exclusive list of critical infrastructure sectors, workers, and functions that should continue during the COVID-19 response across all jurisdictions. Individual jurisdictions should add or subtract essential workforce categories based on their own requirements and discretion.
...
State, local, tribal, and territorial governments are responsible for implementing and executing response activities, including decisions about access and reentry, in their communities, while the Federal Government is in a supporting role.

or did you mean ironic in the sense that you expected some of us to believe you were informed and the LA Times would be concise on yet another hair-fire episode of TDS?

Illegal immigration is just good for the US economy, I don't understand why conservatives are so against it. Obviously conservatives are not very smart.
