Re: The coronavirus spread updated in real time
Ajax,
Give the intense coverage of this virus since, at least, December, so we have a solid idea of it, how it works, how people get sick, and how they die, how many Americans do you think would've died had we just carried on business as usual?

I asked you first. Nobody really knows. But even if 30% of us die from it you still have find a way to go to back to work.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 1:16 amAjax,

What if we had taken Sweden's approach?

Re: The coronavirus spread updated in real time
Ajax is prepared to accept about a 100 million Americans dying if it means he has a good reason to stay out of the house during the day.
Sweden has the worst per capital mortality rate of its region, is in a depression level economy, and is projected to has the worst growth coming out of it of in the Scandanavian bloc. It's not exactly a model to follow, but even Sweden has managed a level of mitigation efforts that does not comport with the wide-eyed re-opening being talked about here.

You said that even if 30% of the country dies, people got to get back to work. 30% of the country is approximately 100 million people. The realistic estimates have a top end of a few million assuming there isn't a catastrophic mutation.

Ajax,
How many American deaths and catastrophic injuries related to the virus are acceptable to you?

Right. Is there a particular model for Mexico that you feel violates your insight here? I mean, you're just guessing about how bad Mexico is, and then guessing at reasons to substantiate your guess -- all based on racial stereotypes -- and then using that, apparently, to inform the decisions you're making about your practice. It's really hard to believe you're actually serious, and not just blowing off steam. They're a young generally healthy population where the weak don't survive. I'd venture to say they have stronger immune systems than people in the developed world just from living in the hot, crowded and stinky tropical conditions they're born into.
Your current argument: it's spread like crazy in Mexico, but people are tougher there. You haven't quite come out and explicitly said that in the US, it's mainly non-whites and older and sick people dying, and so who cares? A strong young white person with a single-family home has no cause to worry.
Well, it's probably true that the numbers are pretty good, comparatively for you, your family. But are the numbers good enough? Unlike the flu, this thing has a pretty scary wildcard element.

Good thread here on how Judy Mikovits was stovepiped into a massively popular COVID conspiracy theorist.

Not sure that matters as we can't even count how many deaths were caused by covid correctlyDoctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 2:18 amAjax,

Four people died in Benghazi and the GOP freaked the “F” out. It was the end of the goddamned world.
75,000 and counting from a virus? Meh, what can ya do? People gotta work.
