Midgeley seems to be “triggered” by strong, educated, credible women being taken seriously on topics where he is largely ignored - Colvin, Newton...What’s next for Midge, an unannounced visit to Newton’s ward where he can insincerely attempt to befriend Newton’s husband whilst spouting off about how bad a scholar Marjorie is?

I was young and running around the stake center in the Rose Park area of SLC when I heard some sharp words. The Midge was upset that the gatherings were always in the Rose Park stake center and that area of SLC was beneath him
This really rubs me the wrong way. I have relatives from Rose Park; good Mormon people. He think he is better than they are? Truly he's got "Great White God" syndrome.

Yeah, that Rose Park stake center was always the gathering place for the New Zealand Missionary Society back then and I think still to this day, except for the time when the Midge got his way. I'll have to ask the people I know about what they remember about the incident.

I just ran across this, for those interested in the shameful ban of Dr. LOD from SeN.
DCP wrote:His nasty, repeated accusation of anti-Maori racism against Professor Midgley was a factor, of course. As you know, Kiwi57, I've traveled with Professor Midgley in Aotearoa, and I've witnessed his feelings for the Maori at first hand both there and here in the States, as well as their feelings for him.

But that wasn't actually the final straw. The final straw, indicative of his hateful obsession with Louis Midgley, was his adoption of a clowned-up, mocking image of Professor Midgley as his avatar here (and elsewhere). That, in my view, revealed a level of obsessive personal malice that simply isn't welcome here on my blog. It effectively made every post of his, whatever its subject -- though, frankly, Vegan Burrito seemed increasingly to have only one subject -- an attack on Louis Midgley.
Wow, does he miss the mark in the first paragraph. That in no way describes Dr. LOD, from what I've seen. Dr. LOD, from what I have seen, has never said anything that contradicts claims about Midgley's "feelings for the Maori". Caring for the Maori is absolutely compatible with having a "Great White God" complex, imperialist ambitions, and fevered religious delusions.

And then, lol, Dr. LOD's av is all in good fun. The Good Professor needs to lighten up and have a laugh now and again.

Quite possibly the most bizarre (and lame) excuse I've ever heard for banning someone. They *cracked a visual joke*, and that merits censorship? This really does seem like a case where they just couldn't handle Dr. LOD's superior mental skills and arguments. And don't forget that he adopted that avatar only *after* Midgley et al. began calling him "Vegan Burrito," or whatever.

Actually Daniel Peterson it started this way. I brought up rather gently how Midgelys relationship with the Maori was more about how they and their culture supported his religious views. By distorting their history, in short cultural appropriation. The old Professor recognized my subtle critique.
Midgley did something I didn’t expect he accused me of being racist towards the Maori. He has denied doing this. But he did. He even did it to another individual in the comment section of his temper tantrum of an article from your “so called journal” look up the comments from RWatson.

Sometime later Simon Southernton pointed out a quote that in its context is actually quite offensive and racist. I believe it was “muddling with the Lamanites.”
So in my mind it is pretty clear what Professor Midgley thinks of people whom the church has called Lamanites for the last almost two hundred years. And the Maori whom he considers Nephites.

That is something that the editor should have identified and changed. Since they didn’t I would have to assume that they agreed with that statement.

Lastly I don’t know what you call a white man who is stupid enough to tell an indigenous woman she doesn’t belong to her people, as he did repeatedly to Professor Gina Colvin, other than a ugly racist.

And we didn’t even address the infamous MLK posts yet.

Dan your “Final Straw” rant about my rather handsome and distinguished avatar is amusing and wrong. I made it and posted it after my ban by you. How about you call it the “final final straw, after the fact.”

My dad served a mission in Polynesia we went to many church meetings, weddings, and funerals in those areas of town. I don’t remember him having such an attitude, about the poorer parts of town.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the mustache, pipe, and sunglasses take a good 20 years off of Midgley's age, making him look a spritely 70.

Pretty fragile and thin skinned if that bothered them.

I thought it looked like a little like an old guy into steampunk, old outside and young inside.

Yes. It’s stunning Peterson thinks statements like that show how much Midgley cares for and loves Maori people. Just not the ones who disagree with him and/or leave his religion, which is apparently ok to post on SeN.
