So, Ceeboo, since Sat Sep 25, 2021 3:59 am, how many minutes of walking have you done?

I will make no comments about anything (including the total number of minutes I have walked) until this Thursday, September 30th, when I will post the results - at my first week weigh in.

Patience!

Hey, Ceeboo -

One thing to remember is to not pay too much attention to the numbers on those first few weigh-ins. Your weight may initially fluctuate due to a number of factors even as you are making some positive changes. Sometimes, better indications of progress (or complementary indicators, anyway) will include your energy level, appetite, and the fit of your clothes.

Over time, the overall trajectory of weight loss will fall into line if you are sticking to a solid plan.

Understood and agreed - In my opinion, energy levels is something I am going to pay very close attention to (I hope my energy level starts to move in a heightened direction)

Sounds like you've got all the right focus.

Although I'm a big fan of ignoring the scale and focusing on the other intangibles can have its own issues. I am forever caught between the competing ideas that I feel like I'm my best athlete at like 165 but also wanting to look like Henry Cavill in The Witcher.

Yeah, I think I have been doing this exact thing you mention (battling with the competing ideas) because when I first wanted to do this, I was thinking about the number on the scale - full stop. But as I continued to think about all of this (the information in this thread certainly included) I have shifted my thinking some - Don't get me wrong, I am intensely interested in loosing some of my belly fat, but I'm not super focused on that alone. I almost see my reduction of belly fat as a "desired consequence" that will come from focusing on other things (making better food choices, moving my ass, etc)

I'm sure you already know this Ceebs, but for those following along at home. It was also an important mental shift for me in understanding that there really is no final destination when it came to my health and fitness. Sure there are milestones to hit along the way, and an ever shifting set of personal goals... but I'm never "done". I can always eat just a bit better, lift a little more weight, hike a little further. There is also a flip side to that coin: developing the mindset that allows me to rest, drink a few beers, or eat an entire pizza all without beating myself up for it or letting myself totally slide into oblivion.

in my opinion if you're doing it right what the journey is about is becoming more self aware of your body and its needs and how best to balance those all while giving yourself the best shot at getting to hang around this crazy awesome planet for a long time. You'll never get it perfect and frankly your body has conflicting ideas as well but the ride is pretty fun.

No need for me to develop this mindset - It has been my mindset for decades now. :)

Fair enough. You may find that the longer you commit to eating healthier the harder it becomes to allow yourself the freedom to break those habits. For me eating healthy requires discipline, if I allow myself to I'd live off of Triscuits, Pizza, and Chips & Queso. For many reasons I can't do that, so then it becomes about the delicate act of meeting my other goals while not being too harsh on myself.

A very brief teaser to quench your thirst before my full report on Thursday.

Did you know that when you drink several buckets of water in a day, you go tinkle almost constantly? It's amazing! :)
