If I had to throw a dart and hit something fast, I'd say he's on the AT.
I’d be surprised if he were on the AT. There’s a lot of traffic, and the hikers along with the ATC are very chatty and internet-connected. Tons of hikers are on social media and I guarantee you they’re all on the look out for Brian Laundrie. The trail is also dotted with towns, very usable public access points, and tons of roads hikers have to cross. It’d be hard to hide in plain sight as it were. It’s not impossible, and some criminals have used the AT in the past, but Brian Laundrie is a national ‘celebrity’ and I don’t think he’d last too long on that particular trail.

Let me ask you this. Would you give your real name (first or last) to a fellow traveler on the AT? Or would you use camping nicks?

I don't gamble. I don't know what you mean by long Dog and short on the FBI.
Sorry, that is actually a mix of a lot of terms. It means I would bet on Dog to win and the FBI to lose.

I try and avoid flowers, but I should definitely compliment you here. I should avoid using metaphors and jargon if I also rail against metaphors and jargon. You were right to ask and point it out. Apologies.
I don't know what you mean by flowers. If I don't understand something, I always ask.

Well. Most hikers would use a trail name. I’d just use my name because … well, just because. Topically speaking, I don’t think Brian Laundrie could avoid being recognized even if he uses a trail name. Everyone is on the Internet and a sighting, even an unconfirmed sighting, would send the hikers into a frenzy of gossip and wanting to nab him. For example, there was a creeper on the trail who was wildly inappropriate toward female hikers. By the time we bumped into him we already knew his M.O., his description, and how to report him.

I do, too. So why do you so rarely give me a straight answer?

Dog is on an island in Florida.

I can't believe I just wrote that sentence. And yet, I did. ;)

This is a great example of why the AT is a tough go for a fugitive - from Facebook:

POSSIBLE FUGITVE BRIAN LAUNDRIE SIGHTINGS IN MADISON COUNTY AND BUNCOMBE COUNTY - NATIONAL REPORTS SAY LAUNDRIE COULD BE HEADED FOR THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL - MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, WOODFIN POLICE, AND FBI NOTIFIED

***Update 9:56am - 9/28 - A 5th source says a man fitting his description was in the Citgo at Woodland Hills across from Granny's restaurant yesterday, 9/27, between 12:45pm and 1:00pm. Source says the man was tall and wearing a tan shirt. Clean shaven and bald. Skyline has called the Citgo to make arrangements to see the video footage. Law enforcement notified.

**Original story**- Four independent sources in the Meadow Fork, Max Patch and Hot Springs areas have seen a man fitting fugitive Brian Laundrie's description.

One source says the bald man is clean shaven, wearing long tan pants, green and black camo short sleeve shirt with a gray long sleeve shirt underneath, "the sleeves were gray." He was not wearing a hat. This individual was seen outside the Meadows Fork Campground yesterday.

Another source said the man matched that description but was carrying a blue and red backpack. This back pack was described as tall. One that you would carry camping supplies or hiking items in. A three strap harness type. Not like you would carry to a school campus. This person was seen on Max Patch Rd. September 26th at approximately 10:00am.

Another source said the same, regarding the backpack but the person was wearing a dark colored hoodie with the hood down. Man was wearing a dark colored hat with white writing in the front. Person was seen on Lawson St in Hot Springs.

Skyline recieved another tip of a man fitting the description but was driving a white Toyota or Chevy 4-door car, black ball cap, and camo shirt. "The car was newer", source said. The car was turning around at the corner of Grouse Point Rd and Meadow Fork.
All tips came from the Meadows Fork, Hot Springs, and near the Max Patch areas.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office has been notified and the FBI. Please call them if you see anyone matching that description. 828-649-2721

If you have a tip for Skyline you can contact us at 828-216-0147.

Skyline will continue to update on this feed.
