This thread wasn't about Bezos, sad little troll.Atlanticmike wrote: โFri Oct 15, 2021 11:43 amHahahahahaJersey Girl wrote: โWed Oct 13, 2021 8:31 pmAs much as I think Jeff Bezos could do so much more for this country, I have to fully endorse this mission. Ninety year old William Shatner, a.k.a. Captain James Kirk, first real trip into space. Live long and prosper, Captain.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTfQVMH5SuIJeff Bezos employees 1.3 million people and some how you think he needs to do "more" !! How many people do you employ ding dong?? Maybe YOU should do more. Maybe you should stop naming the trees in your yard and do more by employing an unemployed person. For fxxx sake I'll never understand the mind of a progressive.
Honestly!! Saying that a man that employs 1.3 million people needs to do more is the most ignorant statement I've read on this forum. Congratulations Snooki!!
Again! How many people do you employ?

I really wish Nimoy was around to have been able to take part in this. Just the thought of his face describing the experience makes my innards smile.

You might want to post this comment on the new thread for the topic. I've scrapped this one that has been intentionally trolled and hijacked, and started a new one.Doctor Steuss wrote: โFri Oct 15, 2021 5:45 pmI really wish Nimoy was around to have been able to take part in this. William Shatner trained as a Shakespearean actor. His style never changed for the little screen, and his portrayal of Captain Kirk was equal parts oversized hero and over-the-top bombast. My favorite example of Shatner's bombast is the painfully over-the-top Mr. Tambourine Man.
He always struck me as someone who was a little full of himself, but I'm glad he had a moving experience in space.
I agree with those who say this seems like an egoic and aspirational venture from Bezos. But if you are going to have a limited number of people with the experience of space, it should be writers and artists like William Gibson, Neal Stephenson...Give the experience to those who could share that experience with the rest of us.
Part of the psychological pull of space is simple escapism. If Bezos wanted to use his billions to tackle Climate Change, he would have to examine his own business model and profit structure. He could throw his billions at the problem and never solve it.
In space there are problems to be solved, but a lot of the problems are solved with engineering and money. Smaller reward, but a much greater chance of success. But my question for Bezos would be: When the reality of Climate Change is destroying large swaths of the human habitat, will anyone give a flying โFโ that Jeff Bezos gave William Shatner a ride into space?

The great problem of any civilization is how to rejuvenate itself without rebarbarization.

Weโve done that, and will continue to do that (although we like Winco for this, as opposed to Wal-Mart). But, we could probably fill a few more bags up if our net worth was 190 billion dollars. : D
Besides, Bezos could probably make the Batman costume work. And he has plenty down on aisle 467B.
