I hate to break this to Atlanticmike, but I have no interest in being his friend. I don't come to a discussion board to make friends. I come here (surprise!!) to discuss.

And when some posters make discussion difficult by posting what amounts to a splurge of "white noise" in the form of nonsense posts or repeated posts that have no purpose other than to provoke and insult, which drives away potentially interesting discussants, I'd like that to stop. And if we need new rules to stop what are (in my long experience) new kinds of trolling so far as this board is concerned, then we need to go ahead and make the new rules.

Way before I stumbled across this board, Lem has been obsessively following around conservatives and asking the moderators to Q them because of the use of certain words like liberal. I can't remember the thread, but in a thread last year Lem was picking on leeuniverse because he was defending his position as a conservative and Lem was asking the moderators to "deal" with his azz. Time and time and time again, it's the more conservative posters being harassed by Lem. If you look back through her post, just about every conservative she's chosen to get rid of has become a "sexist" because she knows that label will help her accomplish her goal of painting certain posters as A-Holes. The only difference with me is I'm willing to fight back and I don't care what Lem tries to label me as. And it drives the SJWs in the board absolutely insane. You see! You SJWs like when your conservative pets are willing to comply with your demands. But when someone comes along and calls out your bullxxxt, you guys get in a feeding frenzy like a bunch of hungry piranhas. The reason you're so upset with me is I'm not intimidated by piranhas. As I've said before, I'm a fisherman and I love to catch fish and take them home, skin em, them fry em up in hot grease.

Lee Universe (LDS Faqs) was hands down, no contest, the worst violator of the rule against personal attacks. No matter how politely someone responded to his over the top posts about evil liberals, he straight up attacked them personally. Whenever Shades told him to stop, he responded by continuing the personal attacks but attempting to evade the rules by referring to the same people here by a group label rather than by name: “You liberals” or similar designation. When Shades told him that was not in compliance with the rules, he just kept on going. So, Shades split the then off-topic Forum into Paradise and Prison as you see them now. He was free to post in Prison, but any posts in Paradise has to be approved by Shades or EA. It has nothing to do with a plot to get rid of conservatives. It has everything to do with his insistence on personally attacking anyone who disagreed with anything he said.

Look, I recognize the tough guy act. And it communicates the opposite of what you think it does. It communicates weakness. When I run into an opposing lawyer who does the tough guy routine, I’m as happy as a pig in crap. He’s just telegraphed to me that he’s got nothing and I’m going to clean his clock.

A lawyer who is notorious for bully boy behavior pulled his routine in a case I’m working on a few weeks ago. We wiped the floor with him with almost no effort.

So, all this tough guy posturing just communicates that you are a small, weak man who has to seek out and harass strangers to try and cover his own insecurity. Your fantasy stories about the evil Lem and her crusade against conservatives is complete BS that does not in any way, shape, or form justify your harassment.

First, I’m going to deal with stuff I didn’t say. I didn’t say anything to you about “pink vagina hat.” To the extent I’ve discussed that phrase in this thread, I’ve communicated the view of the mod team that the phrase as used in reported posts is not R rated and can stay in Paradise. That’s not being a “good progressive.” That’s applying the rules, as written, as evenhanded and as dispassionately as the three of us can. As a moderator, I don’t have the luxury of having a team or a tribe. That’s not my job.

I also asked Jersey Girl questions about a proposal she was making so that I could understand exactly what she wanted to happen and figure out what role, if any, I as a moderator would have in that process. And I was as civil and polite with her as I have been with you when I’ve talked with you in the red (shorthand for in my official capacity as a moderator.

With respect to “hitting back,” I’ve told you what your remedy is here, now that we have a functioning mod team again: if you see something that breaks the rules, click on the report button. You don’t get to use someone else’s bad behavior as an excuse for your own bad behavior. And, in your case, you respond to bad behavior with over the top bad behavior, which makes you the worse offender every time. You’ve been bragging about how you’ve stopped folks here from mistreating certain individuals, but you haven’t modified your behavior at all. So, were you really a white knight defending the honor of conservatives, or was that just a flimsy excuse for bad behavior?

You’re not the only poster who has contacted me and invited me to PM them if I see a problem with their posts. That’s my preferred way of handling moderation issues. And while I give you full credit for stopping certain behaviors when asked, I give you zero credit for using that fact as license to ignore the rules until you get a specific request from a mod to stop.

Again, applying rules created to handle a specific case to a situation that is not pretty much identical is always a hard sell. But, again, people here get to propose things to Shades and what happens is up to him. There’s a process and the issues will get handled.

I don't search out Lem. She comes down here and searches for me. I guess you don't take that into consideration? Let me ask you this. If I was a troll, wouldn't I be bouncing all over the place on the board? I go up to the terrestrial to read just about everyday.
