Isn't it illegal to use "deadly force" to defend property? I know it is even in Texas. If so, then why take an AR rifle? If that isn't intent to use deadly girce then what is?

The judge said he wouldn't allow the defense to refer to those shot as "victims," but they could be called "looters."

WTF? We're just going to assume the peopke he killed were all engaged in looting??

Have you followed the trial? I'm just curious about that.

No. I have had absolutely no time to do so, so I’m relying on all of you folks to smack the back of my head and set me straight about these things. : D

I have to go. You people are sucking me right in. ;-)

Hopefully something good will come from all of this. Perhaps more anti-vigilate laws should be passed to make situations like less likely. A stipulation in the existing law would be nice. Something like carrying a firearm illegally is a felony that carries harsher punishment if resulting in loss of life.
Maybe would should start buy teaching progressives not to chase a guy who's armed with a long gun.
Progressives?

He was asked on the stand why he didn't bring a handgun rather than a rifle and he said he didn't think he could legally carry a handgun since he was younger than 18 at the time.
Dammit! Foiled by the law, again!

This entire thread leads me to ask - Please remind me how it makes America a better place to live in that people can wander round the streets with loaded guns, just whenever they think it might be a good idea.
I personally think it’s a form of mass insanity that our culture tolerates it. But believe you me, those who fetishize weapons are deadly serious about keeping them, so we’re stuck. It’d be, and I’m not overstating this, a civil war if the federal government attempted to outlaw guns and non-hunting rifles.

Yeah, he did. Thanks for the reminder, honor.

The crying is suspect to me, only because he didn't seem emotional at all during the actual "traumatizing" event.

The judge wont allow evidence demonstrating his state of mind after being released. I don't know if this is true but i was watching someone on tv this morning say Kyle was associating with white nationalists at a bar throwing up white power hand symbols after he was released. Also, he wore a shirt that said "free as a f--king bird" or something to that effect. Nothing really incriminating but that kind of behavior does throw doubt on his recent emotional outburst as someone terrified for his life.

So, what’s your take vis a vis his being attacked and his defending himself?

- Doc
And this is what the trial is about. Did Rittenhouse act reasonably considering his circumstances.

On the face of it, he has a right to defend himself. What I can’t speak to is how strongly he may have believed that he was going to die unless he started firing, or how he ended up running from a crowd to begin with. I thought that at one time he was caught on video walking towards a larger crowd prior to that point (‘the action’) with rifle in hand. Is it reasonable for some folks in that crowd to have perceived Rittenhouse as a threat somewhere along that timeline, and given chase?
I don’t know if that was a rhetorical question, but I’ll answer in good faith:

“F” no.

I’m not being facetious. Anyone with half a brain would’ve seen a dude with a rifle and walked away while dialing 911. Once shots were fired?

Double “F” no. Run away and dial 911.

Hitting a dude in the head with your skateboard is psychotic and stupid. I think there was a black guy who tried curb stomping him, but he got lucky because he ran away. Drawing your handgun and doing a feint instead of emptying your mag into him was absolutely bananas. But you know who wasn’t shot? Everybody else who understood engaging a guy with a rifle was supremely stupid and didn’t do it.

Dr. Grande addressed that in the video. I recommend watching it. It’s short, and kind of interesting.
