Can you clearly state what you think Rosenbaum would have done if he had managed to reach Kyle before being shot?

Nope. Nobody can, now. That’s the beauty of the situation. And if I kill someone on the claim that I feel threatened, then the person that I fired on can’t say anything at all about their mindset. Reckless open carry can proceed without consequence, for shooting deaths after the slightest interpretation of provocation.

Rosenbaum's mindset was considered here. Evidence from the trial shows that his mindset was that of attempting to run down Kyle to cause him harm.

Jump-kick man doesn't need to accost him at all before jumpkick man attempts to kick him in the head. That is the whole point of self defense. You don't wait till the actual act of great bodily harm or death has occurred, rather, you take action to prevent it.

Again, though, I’m not convinced that this gives license without consequence for anyone to attempt to shoot to kill someone for merely running at them.

But, maybe this is part of the defense being used in the Ahmaud Arbery trial, too.

Obviously not. This trial dealt with a plethora of evidence leading up to the shooting of Rosenbaum that clearly shows that his intentions on running at Kyle was not innocuous.

The Arbery trial will result in their conviction because they provoked the interaction by rolling up on Arbery with guns visible.

A skateboard won't send a strong young man to the hospital. Huber had the right to disarm him

don't fall into the same trap others do. Huber's right to disarm and K's right to self-defense aren't mutually exclusive.

And provision 939.48(4) gives Huber the right to put K in the hospital if it means stopping him from killing others. Had he done so, then he may have been on trial instead, and a prosecutor would have to prove that a guy pointing a gun at people and firing wasn't an imminent threat beyond a reasonable doubt. An imminent threat from the perspective of the skateboard guy and others in the vicinity.
