Can you imagine how fun it would be to hop on a Cruise Lady barge at the starting point of Nephi's Inheritance with Dr. Daniel Peterson and wend our way through the Chesapeake Bay and up the Susquehanna River to retrace the route of Hagoth? The Book of Mormon features Dr. Peterson could point out along the way would be wonderful. Bob Crockett would make an excellent barge passenger/explorer provided he did not become repetitive with the expression, "Bah, humbug!"

Yes but if I joined Crockett and I could sing "Bah Humbug" in tandem and harmony! :D

Indeed, the ole Susquehanna River has been a game changer for Book of Mormon geography and with Captain Kidd sailing up the river via visions of young Joseph, it makes for a whole new scenario (nightmare) for Mormons today. Suddenly it seems the matter is no longer as mysterious as they once thought and the Pacific Ocean is completely taken out of the picture. You have Shulem to thank for that!

Hey, Philo, your friend Ryan started a new thread up in the Celestial Forum entitled The Quincy Account and although it started out a little rough on my end it will prove to be a wonderful thread, so get ur sorry butt up there. :D

Why didn’t Joseph share the ‘actual’ location of Book of Mormon geography with his closest confidants? What a secret to keep!
Yes, it was his little secret to keep and he was the master of that great secret.
So Oliver was in on Joseph’s ‘secrets’ but Wilford Woodruff wasn’t? Why one and not the other?

Type in “Book of Mormon geography” into your search engine and look at all the images. Cruise Lady might start that voyage at one of a number of different locations.

Interestingly, some of these other locations might better fit in with the actual narrative of the Book of Mormon in many respects. Granted, you have to make some adjustments along the way. Cardinal directions, distance calibration, Cumorah, and such.

But remember, these maps and this narrative come to us through the dark pages of history. Question: What percentage of the New World’s history, and all that this may pertain to, is a ‘done deal’?

Duh. Interesting that Brandley’s theory is now being recycled. He put it out there three years ago. Hasn’t changed the world of Mormonism. Why would one think that this recycled theory published anew on a backwater board such as this one would change the world as some here would like to believe?

Puffery.

Mentalgymnast. I have posted multiple excerpts showing Brandley's theory is not the same as Shulem's. You have posted nothing to support your position. Why are you continuing to argue they are the same?

Present your evidence.

I didn’t say they were the same. Two sides of the same coin.

Earlier, Shulem, you posted:
Quoting Joseph…
Woodruff, 1844 wrote:
Yet I have a proclamation to make to the Elders you know the Lord has led the Church untill the present time, I have now a great proclamation for the Elders to teach the Church here after which is in relation to zion, The whole of North and South America is zion, the mountain of the Lords House is in the centre of North & South America, when the House is done, Baptisim font erectd and finished & the worthy are washed, anointed, endowed & ordained kings & priests, which must be done in this life, when the place is prepared you must go through all the ordinances of the house of the Lord so that you who have any dead friends must go through all the ordinances for them the same as for yourselves; then the Elders are to go through all America & build up Churches untill all zion is built up, but not to commence to do this untill the Temple is built up here and the Elders endowed then go forth & accomplish the work & build up stakes in all North and South America.
Grand ambitions for someone that started in Delmarva. And Woodruff just goes right along with the ‘big con’. Wow. Joseph was a rascal.

Long scam.

There are times when the critics seem hellbent on making Joseph into a greater genius than he may have been.

I read these creative interpolations that you and others put out there and I am absolutely amazed at the lengths folks will go to in order to dishonor/disgrace those that claim to speak in the name of God.

But maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised.

It’s interesting that you don’t see a disconnect between Joseph and his early ‘non views’ in respect to Book of Mormon geography (and creating a false map to boot) and his later interest in the same. You really do have to stick to the narrative that from day one he was designing and implementing the ‘long con’.

The traditional narrative, honestly, doesn’t have as many hoops to jump through.

Except for the fact that there are claims of God in the picture.

Again I would ask, if Oliver was in on the con, was Wilford Woodruff also? If not, why? And if he wasn’t, that REALLY makes Joseph into a purposeful and wicked and purposeful deceiver.

Right?

You’re forced into that box. The whole ‘Joe Smith’ thing. Black and white views and positions.

But there is enough evidence to give one pause in thinking this was the case.

MG
