The infant/child is initially a non-communing member.

Nothing wrong with a good Presbyterian...

Biblical Scripture does say that there will be a separation of those who belong to Christ and those who have rejected the good news. It also says that to some he will say I never knew you.

As a member of a PCA church, I take no offense to the "good Presbyterian" comment whatsoever. Since joining the PCA church the people I have encountered who tell me why they would not join the PCA church always bring up infant baptism, but I find that they don't have a clear understanding and think the PCA church views it as a salvific event which it is not. The next comment I get is infants weren't baptized in the Bible. I am not aware of what other Presbyterian churches teach.

It has served to help me more mindful of the Old Testament covenant of circumcision, New Testament circumcision of the heart, and God's covenant with Abraham (Gen. 15).

28-3. The Church should maintain constant and sympathetic relations with
the children. It also should encourage them, on coming to years of discretion,
to make confession of the Lord Jesus Christ and to enter upon all privileges of
full church membership. If they are wayward they should be cherished by the
church and every means used to reclaim them.

6-1. The children of believers are, through the covenant and by right of
birth, non-communing members of the church. Hence they are entitled to
Baptism, and to the pastoral oversight, instruction and government of the
church, with a view to their embracing Christ and thus possessing personally
all benefits of the covenant.
6-2. Communing members are those who have made a profession of faith
in Christ, have been baptized, and have been admitted by the Session to the
Lord's Table. (See BCO 46-4 for associate members).

This would involve coming alongside the child and lovingly, gently helping the child examine their own behavior and perhaps understand what sin is, God's provision for sin, and how one is to live in light of God's provision for sin. Basically, help the child apply those things to whatever the situation or behavior may be.
