My last year living in Texas, in Austin, we experienced a record heat wave in mid February, with temperatures rising to the mid or high 90s Fahrenheit. Two days later, there was a record cold snap, and there was snow on the ground.
Don’t go to Phoenix. This was a fun week from a few years back …

Another place I have seen some weird weather is Denmark, specifically in Northern Jylland (Jutland in English). One winter in Skive there was about a week straight when water outside on the ground froze during daylight hours and thawed again at night. This was due to a cold front and a warm front "battling" each other with the boundary between them oscillating back and forth right over Skive, so that the warm side of the boundary was just north of the town at night and retreating to just south of it in the day. The winds could often be very turbulent. One of my friends showed me picture he took of four flagpoles in a row at the top of a stadium. The flags appeard to be flying in four different directions.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.
I am going to try potatoes this year…any advice if you have done it?
It’s also our first year for these. We’re trying some purple tators in hay bales. If I ever see them poke their leaves out, I will let you know. That hard frost hit us, too, and these were the only things that I had already ‘planted’.

Thanks, i saw them at the nursery a few weeks ago and I guess you just cut them in pieces to plant? i didn’t read the instructions, but I will this week end. They also had sweet potatoes which would be cool.
But there is three inches of snow in my backyard this evening. You know that white stuff that occasionally falls out of the sky in winter. Well it fell most of the day today and its not winter. I am sure I have never seen snow anywhere close to this late in the spring before.

Yes, it’s supposed to be that simple. I’m skeptical, of course, because it seems as if the cut pieces would just start to rot, but 16 million farmers before me can’t be wrong. : D So, I’ll wait it out to see if those little cubes (remember to leave at least two eyes each on each piece) actually root out and sprout up.
If you plant sweet potatoes, try to find the ‘Hanna’ variety. They’re absolutely great mashed.

I have an area ready, i put a lot of mulch and gypsum in it.last year i had tomatoes and peppers in this area so it should be ready as a alternating crop. I will look for the Hanna variety..thanks.

You should consider occasionally posting some pics as your garden begins to mature. Seriously. It’s always fun to see how the efforts of other gardeners are coming along.
I remember on new years day the temperature hit 90 degrees, no snow but there were some cool spells.
I'll bet they weren't as cool as the spells Harry Potter cast.
Shades I do not know if you are right with this, you may be. For me a first encounter with gulf humidity and temperatures near 100 with no air conditioning in the school I found the cool spell heaven sent.
