Tucker is a disingenuous moron. Yes, empty highways means more cars driving at higher speeds which translates to more traffic deaths. If our roads had constant bumper to bumper traffic there'd be no traffic deaths at all. If Tucker were a real journalist and not a propagandist, he'd ask any traffic expert about how this works.

But because he is not a journalist, and being the white supremacist that he is, Tucker is using this to attack democrats and blame George Floyd! What an effing moron this guy is. His "theory" is that cops around the country were ordered to stop enforcing traffic laws against black people (which is a lie) and therefore more black drivers ended up dying in traffic accidents. As if there were some correlation between higher tickets and lower traffic deaths. As if this would explain why ONLY black drivers died and not a proportionate number of white victims.

What this buffoon doesn't get is the fact that the surge in black traffic deaths had to do with the fact that more black people walk longer distances on a regular basis, especially for going to work. Many of this count towards this statistic without driving a car at all. They also live in areas where roads are by far less safe than those in white suburbia. They typically lack the benefit of sidewalks too. So Tucker doesn't address the 4% increase in white traffic deaths. He just says we should expect fewer deaths during a pandemic and then he focuses on the black deaths while trying to connect the dots with George Floyd.
Destiny Thomas, an urban planner and founder and CEO of the California-based Thrivance Group, believes there are two main contributing factors.

"These are the communities that were our essential workers across the country," Thomas said. "Black folks in particular were more likely to suffer the negative impacts of compounding the location of disparity. Being a city worker means that you're at greater risk because you're on the road more than everyone, but it's also high-stakes driving. These are people who are getting paid hourly rates. If you're late three minutes, you're more likely to lose your job, and of course during a time of economic downturn and insecurity that pressure makes you make different types of decisions on the road."

The second factor, she explained, is lack of infrastructure.

"We live in communities that for generations, for decades, have been under invested," Thomas said. "Everyone during the pandemic was driving faster because the roads were not as congested. So the implications for that in a community that has no functioning signal, less crossing opportunities, uneven pavement or unexpected community-wide construction [are worse]. There are still entire communities that don't have sidewalks. These things make sort of a perfect storm for increased fatality rates in Black families."
So while Tucker is using this tragic stat to attack Pete Buttigieg, it turns out the experts agree with him. And his suggesting that this has been "ignored" by him and the media is refuted by the fact that there were stories on it from last June when the study was first released. Tucker is nearly a full year behind the "Liberal media" on this issue, and he's only using it now as a political wedge to mock Democrats.
