Hang on, that was almost a trillion or in excess of a trillion?
Almost. Although I don't know if it's close enough to be an "almost." Numbers seem to vary (which is wild that we don't have an exact dollar amount) on the checks. Maybe the difference is issued, vs. cashed? But, the numbers I can find vary between $800B and $917B. Total pandemic stimulus was supposedly about $5T. CAREs alone was over $2T.
Vote buying is pretty wild indeed. Both sides do it. And, the cost of a marginal vote is HU$E! since most people are not going to change their loyalties based on a political shenanigan.
Wish I could list my vote up on Craigslist, or something.
Hmmm... Vote Ebay might be a business venture worth undertaking. Cut out the middle-man.

Best I can do is tree-fiddy.

This is more interesting than what you may have intended.
The pandemic stimulus vote-buying was an egregious example or case study. And when you look at the ending of that, where McConnell and Trump were butting heads and the last stimulus did not get done and both sides were saying that if it did not get done the Georgia Senate races were going D in January we got a glimpse into how both sides were really just doing the same things - playing political games with money and handouts.
To your point - the price for a vote if it was actually for sale would be a lot cheaper than doing it by massive indirect cash distribution and mass propaganda. If that is actually your point, then I am all for a direct vote market rather than an indirect market. I renewed my Real ID recently and declined to register as a voter (as discussed in other threads). If I could sell the vote which is being auctioned without my consent anyways, well, maybe I would register to vote again.

If you do register to vote, I'd suggest registering as a Democrat given the partisan weaponization of this institution against conservatives. Paying your taxes in full is not enough. Proving your innocence before an Obama appointed judge will be very expensive indeed.
The best part about this is waiting four years to see how all the crazy apocalyptic predictions made by the fear mongering idiots in Right Wing media turned out to be painfully wrong...Gasoline would hit $10/gallon. Hyperinflation would ensue.

True Story: I’m a registered Republican (have been since ’98).
In the last year, I have been audited eighteen times, had a federal judge murder my gender with my own confiscated gun, and been Obama death paneled and FEMA concentration camped five times. I was almost Jade Helmed, but an antifa defunded me with a BLM bumper sticker, so I passed as being snowflaked.
