Thread split from Moral Depravity of Ron Desantis
Why are you worried about convicted felons not getting to vote? In the view of Merrick Garland and pretty much the entire left most criminals are conservative parents who dare to speak out against boys in skirts in the girls bathroom, critical race theory being taught in taxpayer funded public schoool, or January 6 protesters. The idea that most convicted felons are black people who vote Democrat is just a white supremacist myth, right?
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

No, I'm worried about citizens who have already paid their debt to society being singled out by a tyrant who is using them to further his political aspirations by rounding up poor black people. If you fascists on the Right were in any way concerned about liberty or freedom like you pretend to be, you'd be the first people to protest this outrageous act of political cowardice. But you're not interested in freedom for US citizens, you're only interested in retaining power at all costs while using "Freedom" as a bumper sticker slogan.
That's just another one of your idiotic lies you'll refuse to support.ajax18 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 5:00 pmIn the view of Merrick Garland and pretty much the entire left most criminals are conservative parents who dare to speak out against boys in skirts in the girls bathroom, critical race theory being taught in taxpayer funded public schoool, or January 6 protesters.
It is a statistical fact, and hardly surprising given the systemic racism that thrives in the country, making it far more difficult for poor black people to hire attorneys. But that's the way you want to keep it.
Compare the old black lady being hauled off in handcuffs for "voter fraud" that allegedly happened two years ago, and the Trump family voting illegally in multiple states without so much as a slap on the wrist. Why the discrepancy in treatment? And why is she being arrested now? Because Desantis needs another prop to further his political agenda, and he's more than willing to incarcerate his own citizens if needed. No one in their right mind believes this poor old woman deserves to be hauled off in cuffs for merely voting which should be her constitutional right.
This is just another example of many in which republicans try to subvert the will of the people and undermine our democracy by making it more difficult for people to vote, particularly minorities. Because they know the jig is up, and they have no chance in hell of ever convincing the majority of minorities that voting Republican is ever going to be in their best interests.

But they haven't paid their debt yet. When they pay their fines and fees, they can vote again. That would've course mean that they would have to get a job. At which point you probably wouldn't want them to vote because people who work tend to vote Republican. No, I'm worried about citizens who have already paid their debt to society

65% of Florida voters approved Amendment 4, which automatically restores the voting rights of people convicted of a felony—except murder or sexual offenses—after the completion of their sentences. Next time I see a “We the People” flag flying off the back end of a truck I’ll remember the only “people” Trumpers care to have representation is them. 65%.

They paid their debt to society according to the courts that sentenced them. The "fines" were later stipulation on voting that were added by Republicans as a means to negate minority votes and to further intimidate them for future elections. The idea is to remind the black people what and where their place is in modern day Jim Crow Florida, and now these same people are unlikely ever to vote again because the state of Florida under Republican rule cannot be trusted. They trick them into thinking they can vote only to arrest them when they do.
Another idiotic remark that flies in the face of reality. Most people working multiple jobs vote Democrat. You're so damned detached from real American society you think all poor people are jobless. At which point you probably wouldn't want them to vote because people who work tend to vote Republican.
This is what the age of Trump has given us. A return to Jim Crow days where black people are harassed, arrested and even murdered in broad daylight for no valid reason other than the fact that the country is full of Right Wing racists.
