No one is proposing arranged marriages. Wouldn't you think the 23% gap is a problem that needs to be at least acknowledged?
Because the Right is offering solutions. You don't want more young men to go to the Right.

I understand. I don't think 18 year old girls should be dating guys over 30.Gadianton wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 9:30 pmThere's only so many barely-18 girls out there, DT. If they are the object of guys 18-25 but also the object of guys 25-59, then somebody is going to have to sit this one out. And that's being generous by speaking of young girls as if they are a commodity for satisfying the needs of guys 18-59. We haven't even got to what they might want in life.
Acknowledged by who or what? You’re pointing to a source that gives the data. Are you wanting a political ideology to seize upon it and propose a ‘solution’ to the disparity? How would such an ideology ‘solve’ the disparity issue?doubtingthomas wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 10:49 pmNo one is proposing arranged marriages. Upstream, you noted that “the lack of having an intimate relationship causes mental health problems.”
I agree the Right doesn't good solutions. The Right is telling young men to get rich first, get the women later, and stuff like that.canpakes wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 12:45 amUpstream, you noted that “the lack of having an intimate relationship causes mental health problems.”
‘The Right’ isn’t offering a solution to any problem here unless they have instituted a mental health program designed to resolve any such mental health problems.
What I think you’re seeing is that some folks are seeking to weaponize single male angst for particular political gain. That isn’t a solution to anything within the scope of mental health. If anything, it’s exacerbating those mental health issues.
I don't know, but the Left shouldn't blame men. Many on the left are saying that single men are lazy unemployed video gamers who live with mommy. Look at them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H--G2WOBazA
I’m not so sure that this attitude or conclusion is limited to a particular political alignment. From my own anecdotal observation, this seems to be a popular opinion voiced by older folks when describing younger generations. Most of the older folks that I know are very solidly ‘right wing’ political critters.doubtingthomas wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 12:51 am(t)he Left shouldn't blame men. Can the folks on ‘the Right’ who give this advice also be seen as driving the problem, to some extent? This advice also sets up certain conditions for women - especially within conservative circles - to be expecting, doesn’t it?doubtingthomas wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 12:51 amThe Right is telling young men to get rich first, get the women later, and stuff like that.
the left? it's just a straightforward fact. My stepkid is in a "relationship" with an lazy unemployed video gamer who lives with mommy. But she's the same. My gut feeling is that a lot of these kids are only child, mom and dad both work (in his case) and if they stretch it out long enough, they may not need to work much once they get the house and whatever else. They've already painted themselves into a corner, but worse, the deck is stacked against them because college is too expensive/not worth it, jobs don't pay enough to make even renting a possibility.I don't know, but the Left shouldn't blame men. Jesus Christ, DT. I didn't offer what you are quoting as an explanation for the single statistic you are currently obsessed with. If you want an answer to why, get off your ass and do some research.doubtingthomas wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 8:44 pmOf course, there's some evidence that hypergamy is a contributing factor, which means that some men are dating multiple women at the same time. Similar to what Res Ipsa pointed out,
Rep Ipsa's explanation doesn't work that well because there's a 21.5% gap between single men and women ages 26-33.

In other words, only the top guys win.
No. That's not the problem.doubtingthomas wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 10:49 pmNo one is proposing arranged marriages. Wouldn't you think the 23% gap is a problem that needs to be at least acknowledged?
For the record, changing a thread's title doesn't change the scope of the thread from the standpoint of moderation. Once the thread is started, the thread starter can broaden the scope of the thread based on what they post in the thread, but cannot narrow it. "Young men are a threat to society, says expert,"midterms," and "Replying to Doc's off topic comment." and "you should care" are still within the scope of this thread.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 10:10 pmWhy do you keep changing the titles to your threads, DT?
