Yes, the best example of this that I know of is Norway's approach to criminal justice reform and incarceration. This has already been discussed several times in this forum. I would love to hear what our resident MAGA conservatives think about that. They have, so far, had nothing to say about it that I have seen. It sometimes seems that their only approach to criminal justice is just to lock the miscreants up and throw away the key and maximize their misery. This costs many times more in the long run than effective programs to educate and rehabilitate them both in dollars and cents wise and in higher recidivism rates, as Norway has unequivocally shown to be true.

Are you saying that Nikolas Cruz should be released at some point? I'm probably more in favor of protecting society than I am about vengeance. I'm also for protecting the taxpayer from the costs that criminals impose upon them as well. As long as they're living, these people who need to be locked up to protect society should be working just like the rest of us have to work.

No. I am not saying that Cruz should necessarily be released at some point. There may be a few criminals who are so badly damaged and dangerous that it may never be wise to release them. But as the Norwegian Justice system has proved, there are far more that can be successfully rehabilitated than the hardcore-lock-them-all-up-and-throw-away-the-key type conservatives would have us believe. Their criminal justice system costs millions of dollars less than just locking up as many miscreants as possible for as long as possible with little or no attempt to rehabilitate and educate them, and results in a much lower recidivism rate.

Trump, who I think is demonstrably the most corrupt and pathologically dishonest President this country has yet had. He literally tried and is still trying to end our democratic republic and turn it into tyrannical theocracy. Capital punishment and life in prison without parole is not appropriate for mass shooters just people who vote Republican. Why am I not surprised? That seems to be how things are done at the partisan political department of injustice nowadays.
