12 percent of people report having no friends
The other thread was hijacked, so hopefully this time we can have a discussion about the friendship recession.

At the risk of potentially sending this thread on the path of being hijacked by pathological scientific research illiteracy, and emotional instability...
I’ve hit my freebie limit, and NYT isn’t something I’m subscribed to. Is the article based on the “May 2021 American Perspectives Survey” conducted by the Survey Center of American Life?

Is this a problem? If so, what’s the solution, and what will the consequences be, if any, if it isn’t solved?

The article isn’t specific as to the source:Doctor Steuss wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 10:12 pmAt the risk of potentially sending this thread on the path of being hijacked by pathological scientific research illiteracy, and emotional instability...

The number does match the source that you’re referring to, though:For years, friendship in America has been in decline, a trend that accelerated during the pandemic. Three decades ago, 3 percent of Americans told Gallup pollsters they had no close friends; in 2021, an online poll put it at 12 percent. About a year into the pandemic, 13 percent of women and 8 percent of men age 30 to 49 said they’d lost touch with most of their friends.

I'm glad Doctor Steuss and Res Ipsa have great friends and a fulfilling social life. They should pat each other on the back.

In what way does this trend mean that society is to blame for your failure to get laid?

Why should I be bitter or resentful?
That's nice. Are you going to invite Res Ipsa to play with you?Doctor Steuss wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 4:06 pm
