Is there a reason to think not?
Are you sure he waited?

According to the Great Gods Pyramid Program, the way of the worlds is polygamy. So, it's all perfectly reasonable that Mr. Smith didn't have sexual relations with his wives as it was simply about Smith lining up brood-stock for the later life.

The only head scratcher though is Smith is the only one God had go this route - exclusive heavenly elopement. Everyone else has to line up their girls in the later life.
Kevin, is there any evidence that anyone in the old test. or in the J. Smith or B.Young era, besides J.Smith, married women for eternity only?
Dantana, I'm not aware of any such evidence. What's your point?

thousands of examples where polygamy destroyed and destroys lives
Were those lives destroyed because of something intrinsic to polygamy, or because the husband was mysoginistic?
And I seriously doubt that the argument is between one anecdote and thousands of destroyed lives. Polygamy didn't destroy the lives of my ancestors who practiced polygamy. What's the actual count, Doc? Of all the polygamous Latter-day Saint (FLDS and other splinter groups don't count) marriages entered into, how many destroyed lives and how many didn't?

You’re the only person suggesting “there’s no moral difference between monogamy and polygamy per se,” but there’s little point in rehashing those arguments given your style of ignoring points of discussion, other than to note how off the mark your summing up is.
Marcus, how did you come to the conclusion that I have ever ignored any point of discussion?

Aside from that I would say that a roadblock to consenting, no abusive polygamy is that it seems legally complicated.
And, Meadowchik, are you saying that consenting, non-abusive monogamy does not seem to be legally complicated?

Just admit it, you want to have a lot of wives.

At your age it shouldn't be hard to have multiple girlfriends.

What happens when a marriage of seven with eleven children, occupying two houses and driving five cars, wants to divorce into three smaller groups? ... Can a foreigner acquire citizenship by becoming an eleventh spouse?
Physics Guy, what I did make very clear from the outset was that I was asking about legalizing marriages of three adults. So why are you bringing up questions about marriages of seven and eleventh spouses?
Physics Guy wrote:Modern polygamous marriage, as a new legal institution, would be a huge can of worms. ... And what else could there be to discuss, about modern polygamy?
Perhaps we could discuss why you think it would be a huge can of worms. I think a current spouse should have the right to veto a second marriage, but other than that each of the two marriages could be treated separately. There are ways to establish biological parenthood that work whether the parents are married or not, so I don't see any reason to believe custody disputes would be any more complicated in a marriage of three adults than a marriage of two.

So you're saying that it's possible a monogamous man might exploit his wife, and it's possible such a man might not exploit his wife; and it's possible a polygamous man might exploit one (or both?) of his wives, and it's possible he won't exploit either; and therefore monogamy is better than polygamy? How does that follow?
I've already alluded to this. I'd say its more likely a man is exploiting women if he's married to more than one than if he's married to just one.
Why? You said, "more than one"; does that include two? (That's what we're talking about, after all.) You think it's more likely a man is exploiting women if he's married to two women than if he's married to just one? If so, then why do you think so?

Nope, just significantly less complicated, in general. I'm not saying it's a legitimate roadblock though. It's an obvious potential one.
