The Deniers claim that Brigham Young altered the historical record to cover for his own self interest of polygamy and that much of the source material has been misinterpreted or misused. The recent RFM podcast with the 1 hour summary of church issues was very enlightening. When you lay out the chronology of Joseph’s life, instead of focusing on each detail separately, you can see the overarching pattern Joseph developed.

Whatever Joseph wanted, he found a way to work into a grand narrative. Treasure digging was unproductive, so he found a way to produce a treasure book. Sleeping around was morally wrong, so he found a way to justify it with the new and everlasting covenant.

When he wanted to console parents of a dead child, he just made up stories about infants on thrones. When the mummies rolled into town, he created a story written by Abraham to show off his powers of translation.

On and on and on. Joseph was a masterful con man, and there’s no way for apologists to explain it all together. They just have to explain away each detail by itself and hope you never put together the larger picture.

Would that not severely undermine Brigham Young and the authority of the Salt Lake City church?

Or is this denial a no sex proposal and just spiritual relations for spiritual wives of Joseph Smith.(maintaining continuity with SLC).

Oliver Cowdery never took into account that Joseph was granted Barn Sealing powers before his encounters with Fanny Alger on the haystacks. The Barn Sealing became effective upon contact.
