Is it no longer plagiarism when Dorkenpork publishes something, claims no originality, claims consulted four unnamed sources and then proceeds to mirror Wikipedia's history of Egypt?

https://www.patheos.com/blogs/danpeters ... 01705.html

compared to:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Egypt

He didn't even work that hard. Check out this bbc sunmary. DCP copied almost all of it word for word. Literally.

I stand corrected! I guess at BYU you can use a source without attribution, almost word-for-word, if you claim unoriginality or vaguely allude to using a source of some sort?

Here's a quick sample. The BBC version:
1967 May - Egypt expels UN buffer forces from Sinai and closes the Straits of Tiran to Israeli ships, then sign defence pact with Jordan. Israel interprets this as preparation for war.

1967 June - Israeli pre-emptive attack defeats Egypt, Jordan and Syria, leaving it in control of Sinai up to the Suez Canal and Egyptian-occupied Gaza.

Emergency Law largely suspends civil rights. Remains in force with brief break in early 1980s until 2012.

Sadat presidency

1970 September - Nasser dies, having never recovered his leading role among Arab states after the 1967 defeat, and is succeeded by Vice-President Anwar al-Sadat.

1971 - The Aswan High Dam is completed, with Soviet funding, and has a huge impact on irrigation, agriculture and industry in Egypt.

1972 - President Sadat expels Soviet advisers and reorients Egypt towards the West, while launching an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to open the economy to market forces and foreign investment.

1973 October - Egypt and Syria go to war with Israel to reclaim land lost in 1967. Egypt begins negotiations for the return of Sinai after the war.

1975 June - The Suez Canal is re-opened for first time since 1967 war.

1977 January - "Bread riots" in major cities against end to subsidies on basic foodstuffs under agreement with World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
the words in green are the only words of this section NOT plagiarized by Peterson.

And here is plagiarizing Peterson's version:
1967 May – Egypt expels UN buffer forces from Sinai and closes the Straits of Tiran to Israeli ships, then sign defence pact with Jordan. Israel interprets this as preparation for war.

1967 June – Israeli pre-emptive attack (“Six-Day War”) defeats Egypt, Jordan and Syria, leaving it in control of Sinai up to the Suez Canal and Egyptian-occupied Gaza(along with the Golan Heights, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem). Emergency Law largely suspends civil rights. Remains in force with brief break in early 1980s until 2012.

1970 September – Nasser dies, having never recovered his leading role among Arab states after the 1967 defeat, and is succeeded by Vice-President Anwar al-Sadat.

Why couldn't he just note "BBC has this great outline I will be using as a jumping off point, and here's the link to give them proper credit."

Welll, Dorkenpork does like to make people think he's a thorough and careful academic, so perhaps he just wanted to take credit for 'researching' the timeline rather than give credit to BBC for their work and proprietary material? Speaking of which, I think I'll shoot a note to BBC and let them know Dr. Dorkenpork published their content without giving them due credit. Toodle-oo!

Why is Dr. Dan Dorkenpork not using the Book of Abraham timeline? Why not discuss the teachings of the Book of Abraham and Egyptus who discovers Egypt? Or Egyptus placing her eldest son on the throne as Pharaoh, the first king of Egypt (1:25)? Or why not discuss that Pharaoh was a descendant of the Canaanites (1:22), a race of people who had a black skin come upon them as a curse (Moses 7:8)?

Does Dr. Dan Dorkenpork not have confidence in the explicit teachings of the Book of Abraham? Why disregard the Book of Abraham in favor of cutting and pasting a Wikipedia timeline?

Well, that was interesting. I was contacted by someone named Hillary from the BBC's Content and Brand Protection Team. We chatted a bit, and I suggested to her that the BBC run a crawl script through on his blog to tack down a hard number of times he's plagiarized their material. She thanked me and mentioned they'll most like reach out to Patheos to file a cease and desist. lol

BBC has been posting this timeline since early 2014, according to archives.

And remember the words in blue that I gave credit to Peterson for, a couple posts up? Check out an earlier rendition of BBC's timeline. Peterson's non-original words are in blue.
1967 June - Six-Day War in which Israel defeats forces of Egypt, Jordan and Syria. Israel takes control of Sinai, the Golan Heights, the Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
He just kept the older stuff after BBC updated it, as well as plagiarizing their updates, starting in at least 2018. How more obvious an intent to plagiarize can there be?

Good job, Doctor CamNC4Me. I wish we all would have been reporting Dorkenpork's plagiarisms many years ago. Dorkenpork has plagiarized so many (hundreds if not thousands) sources, authors and various publications. It's time to start reporting his unethical behavior.

Karma, baby, karma, for the threats DCP made against Dr Shades and this board (at least it's predecessor) over the Brian David Mitchell incident when DCP was testifying as an expert witness for the prosecution. DCP stifled this board with his legal threats, so now BBC will perhaps stifle DCP's Sic et Non at Patheos.
