Mikheyev said: ‘I want the Russian empire with Alaska, Hawaii, California, Finland, and Poland. Although Poland and Finland are so stinky, I’m not sure, to be honest. So much for the claim that Putin's Russia would be satisfied if we just let him have Ukraine. Appeasing him would have at least as or much more drastic consequences as allied attempts to appease Adolf Hitler which led to WWII. One has to have one's head thoroughly buried in the sand to believe otherwise.

I agree with that, but the apparent fact that this is actually on Putin's wish list should quell any approval of letting him have his way with Ukraine unopposed.

Putin himself may have tried to distance himself recently from having any designs on regaining Alaska, or any other U.S. states, but I doubt that he would be seriously adverse to the idea if it became any way plausible, and there is little doubt that he would love to reacquire the Baltic states that were once a part of the USSR and control over Poland and probably Finland, if he could.

I think you’re missing the point entirely. The political scientist’s views are based on Russian irredentism:

This can actually be traced back to when the Muscovites shook off Mongol rule and began a sort of pan-slavic era wherein slavs, over the course of time, developed nationalistic tendencies, which included expansionism. Dugin, who I’ve mentioned many times on this board, tapped into this ‘lost era’ and deep cultural zeitgeist of Russian exceptionalism, manifest destiny, and rule over lands once held. Putin obviously supports these notions.
