This is a question for Res Ipsa, but I was told back in my law school stint that I'd never be allowed to serve on a jury. I heard there were two lawyers on the hush money case in Manhattan. Are lawyers allowed to serve on juries?
Yes. I’ve served on a jury.

It's funny how the left claims that Trump will never leave office if elected. It now looks as though Democrats will never leave office. This is also a warning shot to DeSantis and other Republicans who dare to challenge the political establishment. If a government can do this to a billionaire presidential candidate from the opposition party, imagine what it can do to anyone else who disagrees with the uniparty. Perhaps we've already had our last free and fair election in 2016. One thing for sure is that if Trump loses this election in November, we now have a totalitarian regime that will never give up power and is willing and able to try and convict anyone who opposes them regardless of what the voters say. Free and fair elections are no more. Freedom of speech is no more. Freedom of political expression is no more. And rule by the people is no more. How much more democratic is the USA than Russia? Not much. This is far beyond conservative vs. liberal, capitalism vs. socialism. This is about an American republic or totalitarian uniparty control in perpetuity and the end of the Constitution being worth anymore than the paper it's written on.
Projection is such a marvelous thing.

Move to Russia and start posting this kind of crap about Putin. See how long you live.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and predict no jail time. Fine and probation.

That seems to be the overwhelming consensus I'm hearing too. That's why I'm not as excited as people like my wife, for instance.

It would be a travesty of justice, but likely what will happen.

Can a felon hold a secret clearance? If not, then it seems like that might be a problem for a potential president.

Was Michael Cohen a first time offender?

Well, he’s a first time offender, and the sentence has to be consistent with typical sentences given to first time offenders for the same offense. From the little I’ve seen, I don’t think a jail sentence is standard for a first offender convicted of this crime.

He’s done everything possible to piss off the judge, but I hope the judge takes his duties seriously enough to stick to whatever he’s supposed to consider in sentencing.

I would, however, love to be a fly on the wall during the pre-sentencing evaluation. Perhaps the prosecution will recommend that the judge be merciful and take Trump’s poor physical condition and mental health into consideration…

Not sure, but he pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations, tax fraud and bank fraud. I suspect those are more serious crimes.

Shouldn't someone who pleads guilty get less time than someone who pleads not guilty and is convicted?

Not necessarily. The two men were charged with very different offenses.
