How psychologically well might Trump Be?

Post by hauslern »

Donald Trump has mentioned how he aced a memory test which he said he was told he was amazing as not many people were as successful. There are a number of psychiatrists in the book The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump who suggest he has serious cognitive problems. There is another test the Hare Psychopathy Checklist which is a psychological assessment tool designed to assess the presence of psychopathy in individuals. It consists of a 22-item checklist of perceived personality traits and observable behaviors.

I wonder if one can find any traits which Trump displays. I found some I have had during different times in my life.

“Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV”. Wow, hard test. Trump keeps bragging about acing simple test used to detect mental impairment. This is not amazing. He apparently passed a simple threshold test. However, it is difficult to determine what his mental condition is because of his extreme lack of education. Remember he is the guy who thought Frederick Douglass was still alive, that troops took over airports during the Revolutionary War, and that injecting disinfectant is a possible treatment for COVID-19. Whether this is mental impairment or just being an uneducated blowhard, the fact is that he is not fit for office.

It doesn't matter, the more idiotic he gets, the more his base loves it. It's all about disrespecting norms. They want an anti-intellectual "good ole boy" who talks nonsense all the time. That part is nothing new it's just more extreme.

I'm not so sure about that. In my anecdotal observation, pro-Trump posts on my Facebook feed are becoming far less frequent than before. Obviously, my own Facebook feed is no basis for a statistical, uh, base, but I wonder if people's assumptions about Trump's supposed continuing popularity are simply memetic holdovers. You know, the old "Old Habits Die Hard" syndrome.

That's where I was at prior to Mar-a-Lago raid. People were too bored for a season 5. His entire campaign has been his criminality and the consequences of that. It's not a forgone conclusion that he will win thanks to his prosecution, as Bill insists, but it is a possibility. Of course, you could say the same about countering Islamic fundamentalism, let them do what they want because if you counter them, you'll just piss them off and radicalize them more. Or fentanyl at the border, if you crack down too hard, you'll just piss off the drug dealers and they'll start torturing Americans and even worse.

Maybe it's just the core group tripling down, I don't know.

So Biden's mental impairment is disqualifying but Trump's is a plus. That's how you know the GOP base isn't concerned with common sense or consistency.

I never cease to be amazed at how irrational fear leads to irrational behavior, especially when that's your whole existence. I'd feel pity except they want to take the country down with them.

Well, I'm not sure when I said "his base" that I had any specific group of supporters in mind. I may have to qualify what I said. For the folks in my neighborhood I have run-ins with, I think technically they'd be Trump's base, but I can't say, on second thought, that my remarks apply to them. They are Trump supporters, but mostly they are anti-Democrat. I've never seen a MAGA hat in my life, and only a couple Trump signs. I see "F Biden" stickers and shirts. They make excuses for Trump more than anything. My right-wing friend has even said he wished there was someone other than Trump and DeSantis, but make no mistake, he still likes him, he's just trying to get my respect and sound fair minded. So no, I don't think these guys are proud of Trump's increasing insanity, but they would vote Trump before JFK or any hypothetical Democrat no matter what.

But I do know others, such as from a previous job many years ago, who absolutely fit the bill. The ones who would actually buy a Trump hat and huge Trump signs, and I would say they are by far, more pro-Trump than they are anti-Democrat. And they are far smarter than my neighborhood Trumpsters. I think they hopeless contrarians. They want to offend people by liking Trump. It's not racism or transphobia or anything like that, we worked with lots of gays and people of color and everyone got along great. I literally can't explain by anything other than agitating. They even hate religion. But most definitely, the dumber the Trump comment, the more they'd laugh and say things like, "he's a god-damned genius!" Because it's disrespecting norms, sacred cows, authority, and all that.

It is a shame the RNC cannot nominate Al Capone as Trump's running mate.

That'd be perfect. If I recall correctly, Capone was ultimately imprisoned for tax evasion. ;)

And they both suffer syphilis late in life.
