Joseph Smth and Donald Trump as King.
Do LDS consider a theocracy rather than a democracy as the best system of Government? Smith was crowned king in the Council of Fifty. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_of_Fifty) Some have argued that Trump, through the current debate in the court, wants immunity from prosecution, virtually making him a king. No need then for elections?
Official acts?
"Gorsuch wondered what would happen if future presidents “were under fear” that their successors were going to “criminally prosecute” them for official acts like “drone strikes,” though fomenting an insurrection to stay in power is hardly in the same zip code as launching a drone against terrorists in a foreign country. The distinction between “official acts” for which the president would have immunity and “private acts” where he would not is totally unworkable."

"An honest president needs no immunity. He would not even seriously think of ordering the assassination of a political rival. He (or one day she) will never leave office in fear of criminal prosecution. With all our partisan divide, it has never happened in two centuries of the American experiment.
"One thing is certain. If the Supreme Court waits until the end of the June term to hold that a president has little or no criminal immunity, there is only a slender chance of trying the case before the election, and they will have handed Trump a victory." The court, by delaying the decision, has handed Trump a get out of jail card.

The joke would then be on the Supreme Court. Trump will not require their continuance if reelected. Without their positions, they will not receive extravagant gifts from those seeking to buy their favor.

This is probably the main reason people view the court with suspicion these days. They aren't doing their jobs; they're protecting their king (which, by itself, makes you wonder about their general common sense). Clearly, being a Supreme Court judge does not make you smart, reasonable or objective.
The GOP judge selections strike me as corrupt as Trump himself, so they likely see him as the right caretaker to allow them their continued grift.

The US supreme court just basically legalized bribery
I don't think the GOP appointments even care that they look corrupt. They're taking their cues from their would-be criminal king.
The right keeps whining that the country is turning into a banana republic while doing everything in their power to make it happen.

A so-called conservative majority of the U.S Supreme Court rules for the Biden information about censoring social media who put false information on their platform; the so-called conservative majority nullified state plans to accept a settlement from the Sackler family that included shielding the family fortune from damages that linked them to the Opiod crisis saying their fortune - the billions and billions made from opioids - should not be shielded from the damages the company agreed to pay; as mentioned before the court went against the Trump administration regarding bump stocks; the Court is reportedly issuing a ruling against the state of Idaho regarding emergency abortions where Idaho says abortion should only be used in the case rape, incest and the life of the mother; I believe ruled recently against states who wanted to restrict access to the abortion pill.
As to shielding the President from so-called crimes committed during his administration that’s a tough call: an Iranian general killed by a U.S. drone was not a political rival and was likely responsible for deaths of American soldiers and years of bombing directed against Israel via Hezbollah. I would call this a balanced court as you can predict the ruling from an appointee from a democratic administration but not a republican as they are all over the place.

A very interesting take by CNN writers on the court and justice Amy Coney Barrett:

"Supreme Court narrows obstruction law used in Jan. 6 prosecutions"
"Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson joined the high court’s conservative majority, while conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined liberals Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan in the dissent."
https://thehill.com/regulation/court-ba ... on-charge/
I always thought that they were show trials. The guy with the horns and painted face needed a mental health examination after charges were filed but prior to a trial and sentence. His lawyers ego also got in the way of a proper defense. He is in no way a threat to society as much as those being released right after an arrest for a violent crime these days, or those who are just walking across our southern border. Any capital policeman with any type of brain would have told him to release the flag pole [a potential weapon] in his hand and lay down on the ground with his hands out.
If in some bizarre way Trump is sworn in by Kamala Harris as President I think the first thing he will do is pardon painted face horn guy.
