I am reminded of the 2023 short film, “The Handbook.” Content warning for violence, extreme gore, torture, and missionary rule breaking:

I'm still stuck on Afore's objection to Hugh Grant. I recall his role vividly in the landmark film Sirens, where Hugh hit it out of the park as a stuffy anglophile. From what Afore has said, he must have carefully considered this movie as he formulated his objection. I just don't see the problem. Not only was Hugh Grant's character a stuffy Englishman of education and privilege, but he was a man of the world who faced an anomalous situation -- the mythical creatures referred to as sirens. With Doctor Scratch and Kishkumen in the house, I'd be embarrassed to bring up the connections between this movie and ancient literature and lore. This movie was a scholarly event.Doctor Scratch wrote:Yes: it's absolutely devastating. It's hard not to see this as a kind of karmic retribution for all the endless gloating about the Kirtland Temple getting taken away from the CoC. Now, the Exec. Prod. will get to watch as Heretic pulls in many times the box office as his stupid propaganda film. I also imagine it stings to think that the two promising young stars of the film are vocal ex-Mormons.
Hugh Grant in this movie was everything that Afore deems reputable in a man in terms of letters, family background, congeniality, and wealth. Sure, he was a man of the world much like he is, although of the non-believing stripe, but here he was faced with the supernatural and forced to reconcile his own materialism. It's just unthinkable that Afore is not a fan of this message.

I shall allow no man to belittle my soul by making me hate him. -- Booker T. Washington
I think you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who holds more grudges or bottles up more anger than Afore. Who can forget Afore's post about seeing comedian Bill Maher and almost throwing hot soup at his face. Or, his hatred for Angela Lansbury, John Dehlin, Blair Hodges, Gerald Bradford, Rodney Meldrum, Jonathan Neville and many others.Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured. -- Mark Twain
I hope someday Afore can finally let go of all of his hate, rage, grudges and anger. I'm rooting for you little buddy!
ETA It does seem fitting that the film Heretic which stars 2 ex-Mormons will be competing with Afore's film. But let's face it, even if Police Academy 7: Mission to Moscow was playing at the same time, Afore's film wouldn't stand a chance. Afore's film looks absolutely horrible.

Yes, Dean Robbers: Sirens certainly presents a lot of challenges to the Afore. Thinking about this film, it’s a lot easier to understand why Dr. P. Would feel insane hatred/resentment towards H. Grant. It makes a whole, whole lot of sense.Gadianton wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 10:32 pmI'm still stuck on Afore's objection to Hugh Grant. It reminds me of the Chicago serial killer HH Holmes, who built a maze-like hotel wherein he’d trap and kill guests.
Spooky!
But (there’s always a ‘but’ with DCP, isn’t there?), why would he care if sister missionaries were, god forbid, killed on their missions? After all, apologists will always tell you that the suffering Mormongod levies on His children is but a temporary vehicle for some vague lesson they or their loved ones needed to learn. And besides, in the Big Picture, getting killed serving the Lord is a guaranteed trip to the tippy tops of celestialdom.
Think about it. A bold and unwavering faith invites death in servitude to the desert god Jehovah. Oh what glorious awards awaits those who forfeit their lives in service to the Lord, an eternity filled with joy, callings, and babies!
Well, I think it’s a damn shame DCP can’t see the Big Picture; his desire to score petty points and hurl vitriol at an actor taking a role is schoolyard fit throwing. Instead of affirming his faith in the missionary program and God’s protection, he exhibits doubt and faithlessness.
Naturally.

Just 1 month ahead of Heretic. Family budgets are tight these days. If you could only choose one Mormon film to see this fall, which would you choose?DCP wrote:I’m pleased to report that it is now pretty much established and set in stone that the Interpreter Foundation’s dramatic film Six Days in August will be released into theaters on Thursday, 10 October 2024. That’s the week following the 2024 semiannual general conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If you’re interested, you can now circle that date on your calendar.
We’re hoping to set up one or two “sneak preview nights” and a formal premiere prior to the official opening on Thursday, 10 October 2024, but I don’t feel that I can announce dates for those yet. They’re not yet nailed down.

Early movie reviews of Sick Days in August have been leaked from a private showing. Much like FARMS, the Interpreter leaks like a sieve.
"I was really disappointed. It felt like I was watching Police Academy 9: Mission to Mars, only acted out by the food-court staff at Lagoon." -- Blake Ostler
"I have watched many films that have left a bad taste in the mouth, but I've never seen a film like this that caused complete full-blown chronic halitosis." -- Russel McGregor a.k.a. kiwi57
"Total rubbish. I've never seen a movie filled with more gratuitous sex and nudity. Wait...Sorry, I think I confused Six Days with the film Showgirls. Showgirls was okay, Six Days sucked." -- Louis Midgley
"Future Mormon scholars will be researching this disaster for a long time, trying to figure out why the script was so horrible, and why the scenes/acting were so corny and unconvincing. More important, why did almost 30% of the film's budget go to DCP's catering bill?" -- Will Schryver
"Let's put it this way, when you see and hear the irritating actor portraying Joseph Smith on screen you will be rooting for the mob to kill him sooner." -- Stephen Bukkake Smoot
"DCP and the people who made this film will be laughing all the way to the bank with the donors' money. It's just too bad that there isn't 't someone at that bank with integrity who can lock them all inside the vault and lose the key." -- Allen Wyatt

Re: "Six Days in August" Will Face Tough Competition in the Mormon Cinema Market
There’s another Mormon film being released this August…
https://www.firstshowing.net/2024/mormo ... y-trailer/"Tell our missionaries to get out!" Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed the official trailer for a new WWII historical drama titled Escape from Germany, made by a Mormon filmmaker named T.C. Christensen. It's set for a VOD release in August – though it doesn't seem worth the rental price. Escape from Germany is the story of the LDS West German Mission evacuation of 1939 which occurred only days before the Nazi invasion of Poland. Hitler's army was closing borders, and 85 (although the trailer says it's 79?) American missionaries were in Germany serving their church. The escape of these missionaries from Nazi Germany is one of the most dramatic events to occur in modern church history. The last one got out and into Denmark on August 31. The next day Germany invaded Poland and the war began. Starring Paul Wuthrich, David Shawn McConnell, Landon Henneman, Sebastian Barr, Henning Fischer, Kevin Kirshemann, Whitney Palmer, and Brad Witbeck. Despite being a WWII movie with Nazis in it, this is only rated PG. Have a look but I must point out that this is religious propaganda made by Mormons to support the church.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.
