Re: Why is the Supreme Court so mistrusted?
One can go to one hour - thirty-eight seconds (1:38) and see when Stephen Breyer is confronted how decisions he makes might affect his pocket book. It's a tough question which he explores. It's nice to see civility in the process. It's seems today civility is lost. I found myself in awe of Breyer by listening to him during these hearings. It's interesting to watch the heavy hitters in the senate such as Biden, Kennedy, Hatch, and Simpson, etc. make remarks and ask questions.

Chevron and Corner Post. It isn’t for agencies created by congress to make regulations and when they do you can also start a new company and reset the clock on the statute of limitations to sue about it.

I might add the speaker of the House is Catholic.

The Catholic Church has been called "The Great and Abominable Church" by high ranking Mormons. Here in the USA, Catholic voters are called a right-wing cult. The conservative Catholics are vilified by Mormons and former Mormons. Even Ron DeSantis is Catholic. I guess I can predict pretty accurately where thoughts about him might land on this board.
Oh, and I forgot, Biden, too. And Pelosi...

Yellowstone, the current speaker of the house is a conservative southern baptist. In the past there have been catholics in the position.yellowstone123 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 11:33 pmGunnar wrote:

It might be worth remembering that there are Catholics all across the political spectrum from very right wing to very left wing, and of course a lot inbetween. Many take a high view of being educated and using the mind which probably contributes to there being a variety of points of view.

The temple ceremony prior to 1990. Bruce R. McKonkie's first addition of the Mormon Doctrine.
The ad hominem type fallacy used on this board towards anyone that doesn't support the current President like Mormon's support the prophet. The ad hominem type attacks on this board towards so-called right wing Supreme Court Justices who happen to be Catholic. The use of cult for those who would rather see Trump in as President than 4/12 more years of Biden.
It's a choice between two evils and to only believe in Biden and the rules of a silent group running him is a vote for democracy is in my opinion bizzare; If you don't vote the democratic ticket you are in a cult, a fascist, et. al.

Hi Yellowstone. Neither of your examples call Catholics a cult. The headline of the newspaper -- a miniscule, fringe political party -- calls the pro-life movement a cult. The only reference to Catholicism is reference to the hypocrisy of a single politician who publicly claims that their politics are informed by their religion.yellowstone123 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 4:26 pmhttps://socialism.com/fs-article/alabam ... -of-death/

The segment of the temple ceremony to which you refer was called "The Protestant Minister." When I went through the temple, it was clear to me that the role was a Protestant clergyman.
Given the diverse nature of American Catholicism, any claim that American Catholicism is a cult would be laughable. I can't think of an example where I've heard anyone make such a claim. I'm sure that somewhere there are people who have made such a claim, but I'd be shocked if we're talking about anything beyond a fringe opinion.

In other words, nobody in the USA refers to Catholic voters as a right-wing cult, contra your assertion.yellowstone123 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 4:26 pmhttps://socialism.com/fs-article/alabam ... -of-death/

Justice Scalia's Law Review article on Chevron deference is well worth reading. https://biotech.law.lsu.edu/blog/Judici ... of-Law.pdf It's amazing to see how far right the Conservative wing of the Court has moved.
