Set my mum off. She thinks labour is a globalist that wants to destroy the NHS. She thinks the UK is going to take on Sharia law and there will be no NHS in 4 years.
hopefully not. I said that's crazy.

I take it that she has not noticed what the Conservatives have done to the NHS over the last 14 years - like making it next to impossible to register for NHS dental treatment, facing people who can't afford to go private with the alternatives of trying do-it-yourself dentistry or just putting up with the pain? And so on ... all with the addition of lies and financial corruption.
What news sources does she see, I wonder?

Labour's first steps for change
1. Deliver economic stability
2. Cut NHS waiting times
3.Launch a new Border Security Command
4. Set up Great British Energy
5. Crack down on antisocial behaviour
6. Recruit 6,500 new teachers
Deliver economic stability with tough spending rules, so we can grow our economy and keep taxes, inflation and mortgages as low as possible.
Cut NHS waiting times with 40,000 more appointments each week, during evenings and weekends, paid for by cracking down on tax avoidance and non-dom loopholes.
Launch a new Border Security Command with hundreds of new specialist investigators and use counter-terror powers to smash criminal boat gangs.
Set up Great British Energy, a publicly-owned clean power company, to cut bills for good and boost energy security, paid for by a windfall tax on oil and gas giants.
Crack down on antisocial behaviour, with more neighbourhood police paid for by ending wasteful contracts, tough new penalties for offenders, and a new network of youth hubs.
Recruit 6,500 new teachers in key subjects to set children up for life, work and the future, paid for by ending tax breaks for private schools

She likes reform. I think the internet is full of propaganda that's just ugh.. I said that they have 4 years to show what they are about if they are a serious party. I suspect though that farage will quit if they don't get enough seats. I think if conservatives win then we basically have a one party system because this is the year for change if it's going to happen.Chap wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 3:03 pmI take it that she has not noticed what the Conservatives have done to the NHS over the last 14 years - like making it next to impossible to register for NHS dental treatment, facing people who can't afford to go private with the alternatives of trying do-it-yourself dentistry or just putting up with the pain? I remember my daughter coming home from school and asking me if Obama was really going to outlaw bacon. Her Mormon grade school teacher told her Obama would do that if elected. She did not want bacon outlawed.

Oh - I suppose that was the nonsense about him really being a Muslim? The weird thing is that no-one in the US seems to believe that Jewish politicians (whose cultural heritage includes a ban on pig meat, which Muslims adopted) have any such plan in mind.
Just pig ignorant, I suppose.

Lib Democrats did pretty well. What happened to SNP? Scotland was mostly SNP last election. I quite like Nicola sturgeon. Reform did worse than I expected.

Re: UK General Election
I hope you are not referring to the House of Representatives because your statement would be flatly false.
"I have learned with what evils tyranny infects a state. For it frustrates all the virtues, robs freedom of its lofty mood, and opens a school of fawning and terror, inasmuch as it leaves matters not to the wisdom of the laws, but to the angry whim of those who are in authority.”
