Yes, Carlin. He's the only one with intelligence, insight and wisdom in this whole mess. And he's dead.

Probably because what he said was dead on.

Hi boss,

The answer is because there is a difference between rhetorical excess and a conspiracy theory. The effect that Carlin describes doesn't require a conspiracy. It can be the result of people acting out of their own self-interest. He describes it the way he does for effect. But I think what he's criticizing is the system -- not some kind of hidden agreement among rich and powerful folks.

A good example of what I'm talking about is Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent. He hypothesizes that the actual function of the political media is to set the boundaries of acceptable political debate and to make the parties appear further apart on issues than they really are. But it's not based on a claim that the media owners got together and agreed to produce that result.

The distinguishing features of a conspiracy theory are:

(1) The existence of a conspiracy is based, not on evidence, but on asserted "anomalies" in the facts.

(2) Evidence against the existence of the conspiracy is reinterpreted as being part of the conspiracy.

What Carlin describes is the winners in our system using their winnings to make sure that they remain winners and the losers remain losers. That's not an anomaly -- that's rational self-interest.

To wit:

Pointing out that Nestle may be exerting undue influence over local politicians or through lobbying to obtain favorable agreements that allow it to (in the eyes of some folks) abuse water rights, or pointing to the fact that large ag concerns and meat processors rely heavily on ‘non citizen’ labor because they’re cheap to employ, are not conspiracies.

On the other hand, claims that one political party runs a child prostitution ring out of the basement of a pizza parlor that has no basement while also single-handedly controlling every state’s mail-in ballots to swing elections their way while the other political party stands innocent and helpless, or claims that exclusively one party traffics border crossers because illegals will only vote for that one party in elections that they generally can’t vote in anyway, are both claims that circle the ‘conspiracy’ bucket.

That rally was wild. His unhinged amphetamine-laden-diaper-wearing neurosyphilis ramblings about electric boats and sharks was something... umm... special.

Right on brand for the same guy who, while President of the United States of America (!), seriously floated the idea to a DHS official of creating a moat at the southern border and filling it with "crocodiles and snakes."

One more...this isn't a comedy monologue. It's commentary with a side by side comparison. I can think of no one living today who has this ability to communicate the issues. Not one.

Done with the Carlin posts now. Maybe.

This was right after Ivanka secured a patent with a Chinese manufacturer to produce alligator-skin and snakeskin boots and handbags.

It was a sweetheart deal; the Chinese manufacturer even threw in the ‘Made in America’ labels for free.

Disclaimer - this is satire, but interested readers can read more about Trump’s Chinese patent and manufacturing interests at: https://www.businessinsider.com/Trump-d ... 023-10?amp
