I thought it was a decent trailer. It is true though at 47 it looks like a squad of F-16s just wrecked the sky.

Is that supposed to be Sidney Rigdon portrayed as prideful while Brigham Young is humble and relatable?

The jet streams (:47) and power lines (:09) really helped get me into the 19th century state of mind.
OMG! Those power lines at :09 are hilarious. They are in the lower left corner of the screen, for anyone interested.

This is going to be a premiere of epic proportions. Let's all be super fans and support the film on opening night.

Hopefully they shot it in 4K so we can all see the anachronisms in glorious detail!

Oh, wow… yes, those really do look like power cables stretched across the background. D’oh! Maybe instead of an endless vacation, the Executive Producer could have set aside, oh, I dunno, an hour or two? In order to carefully look over the trailer, in order to ensure that it didn’t have any embarrassing errors? Or not: it would seem that treating Sandy Plage with arrogant contempt demanded more of his attention. Once you understand that this is his weakness, you can beat him every time.

It’s hard to see a feature film in the succession of Brigham Young, in the first place. A contested election can be exciting if it’s important and you don’t yet know the outcome, but once it’s in the past, it’s a documentary at best.

There’s not enough spectacle. Even if you’re reckless enough to play Young’s Transfiguration for all it could possibly be worth, it’s still not going to be in the league of the face-melting Ark scene in Raiders. And what else has this movie got except talking?

The only motivation I see is pretty hard-core LDS apologetic. If you think you totally justified Joseph with Witnesses, then you may realize that getting from Smith to the whole Restored Church being True means getting through Brother Brigham as well. Wouldn’t it be great if we could re-brand Young from weird-bearded frontier tyrant with a million wives into a handsome young dude who is humble but resolute?

That may be a case for wanting a film about Young to exist. It’s just not a case for an actual film.

Do they show the key scene of Brigham Young morphing into Joseph Smith? That would be fascinating for young Mormons as well as older ones familiar with the Transformer movies.

I heard through the grapevine they’re using Lucasfilm’s legendary Industrial Light and Magic division for the transfiguration SFX. With half the budget of the film going into the transfiguration, it’s quite strange to leave that scene out of the trailer. It’s going to knock everyone’s socks off like it did back in 1844! Or was it 45? I wonder if they’ll mention people didn’t start remembering it until 1857

What a coincidence, the trailer just released:

What I thought was interesting were the snips from “the standard of truth” that was intermingled in the scenes. “The truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent”? In a movie that begins with Joseph Smith being assassinated because he destroyed a newspaper that told the truth about the doctrines Joseph Smith secretly taught that were in direct violation of what the church publicly taught?

The gun toting man on the left at :11 is either a total bad ass wearing sunglasses into danger or anachronistically wearing transition frames.
