Some LDS people are embarrassed by Joseph Smith's Book of Abraham, especially the facsimiles that came from papyri the church bought during the Kirtland era. The disconnect between Joseph's handling and interpretation of the papyri and modern Egyptological knowledge causes consternation, but Joseph Smith was engaging in an age old Western practice of finding spiritual inspiration in speculations about ancient Egypt.
