I wonder if you might quote what I said in context.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 4:13 pmHe wouldn’t say. It was, and I quote, “too personal.”

From my perspective I don’t think the Church allows much wriggle room on either subject. If being liberal means supporting the idea that gay people should be allowed all the same opportunities as straight people, then your view isn’t welcome at Church. If your view is that women should be allowed all the same opportunities as men, then your view isn’t welcome at Church. If your view is that the Book of Mormon is fiction, then your view isn’t welcome at Church.
Voicing such views and opinions will get you shunned, will get your temple recommend withdrawn, could even get you excommunicated (more so now that Oaks is trying to drive the numbers up).
There definitely are still liberal Mormons. But when in Church I’ve found they will keep their thoughts to themselves.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

If by liberal you literally mean those who think for themselves (life of the mind) while listening/harkening and walking in obedience to the voice of their leaders, then I think you would find there are more ‘liberals’ than you think.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 7:12 amFrom my perspective I don’t think the Church allows much wriggle room on either subject. The list I posted earlier was mainly those types of liberal Mormons. I’m one of them.
Now if you’re talking about apostates in sheep’s clothing, I can’t speak to that. They’re in disguise.
But remember, there is a difference between those who may hold heretical beliefs (Heartland and/or Meso American theory for example) and yet believe in the core doctrines of the church (temple recommend questions), and those that just plain don’t believe and make it a point to bring/push others along into disbelief in the core mission(s) and doctrines of the church.
Being a liberal Mormon is fine. In fact, I think it’s cool with God. He gave us a brain.

That’s an oxymoron.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 9:41 pmIf by liberal you literally mean those who think for themselves (life of the mind) while listening/harkening and walking in obedience to the voice of their leaders, then I think you would find there are more ‘liberals’ than you think.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 7:12 amFrom my perspective I don’t think the Church allows much wriggle room on either subject. From what I’ve observed of your views and opinions and what you’ve said about your behaviours, I wouldn’t describe you as a liberal in the context you’ve used above. The list I posted earlier was mainly those types of liberal Mormons. I’m one of them.
I’m talking about members who think same sex marriage should be allowed, Who think it’s okay to have a nose piercing, who are relaxed about an unmarried man and a woman cohabiting. Etc.Now if you’re talking about apostates in sheep’s clothing, I can’t speak to that. They’re in disguise.
I see no compelling evidence to support the description of you as a liberal. In any sense of the word.

No. I don’t think it is. You don’t get to define liberal.

It doesn’t matter how you see it. I know who I am. You don’t.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 10:12 pmFrom what I’ve observed of your views and opinions and what you’ve said about your behaviours, I wouldn’t describe you as a liberal in the context you’ve used above.
A liberal can be an active and believing member of the church.
Hey, if it’s of any consequence, I’m joining Jeff Flake (active LDS) from Arizona and voting for Kamala.
As I said, you don’t get to define ‘liberal’.
The frustrating thing here is to be OVERLY diagnosed as being one thing or another. It’s enough to drive one bananas.

Again, you don’t get to define words according to your preferences.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 10:12 pm

I think same sex marriage should be allowed. One of our kids is in a same sex marriage. We have a grandchild with piercings. Two of my brothers have lived with a woman without being married.
To each his or her own.
So does that make me liberal enough FOR YOU?

You guys and your prescriptive therapy and judgment. It seems to be built into your DNA.

Oh, so this is how YOU define liberal. Those views you’re listing having to do with Priesthood and the Scriptural Canon would be heretical.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 7:12 amFrom my perspective I don’t think the Church allows much wriggle room on either subject. Are you saying that one must be a heretic in order to be a liberal? If so, I disagree.
An actively ‘preaching’ heretic is a danger to the church. An active liberal is not.
