“a Rotten Tomatoes reviewer” wrote: It tells the story of the martyrdom of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young's succession to the leadership. Mark Goodman, as writer and director, does a fantastic job of making the story engaging and easy to follow even though the story is very complicated with a lot of characters. It was a well-written, well-acted film with beautiful cinematography and a great soundtrack. You may never have heard of any of these actors. But they were all great and I hope to see them in other films for years to come. It is worth staying for the closing credits to hear the song O Give Me Back My Prophet Dear, with lyrics by John Taylor, music by Rob Gardner, and sung by Casey Elliott. It is a great film that tells an important story in Church history..
This totally real unbiased reviewer coincidentally parrots the talking points from Sic Et Non over the last 2 months. “Stay for the credits, the end song is the best part of the film.”

Review by the Executive Vice President of the Interpreter Foundation.

I assume that another review on Rotten Tomatoes was written by a second member of the Interpreter Foundation board.

The first critic’s review is in. Rachel’s Reviews rates it “Smile Worthy.” (I guess she rates films either “Smile Worthy” or “Frown Worthy.”)

Excerpts: “While it is not officially made by the church it has history and doctrinal content that will be confusing for non-members. . . . I don’t have a problem with a film being made for a target demographic as long as it is made well and I’d say this one is. The filmmakers do not shy away from darker elements of this part of church history and this keeps it from feeling like a propaganda piece. . . . I wish screenwriter Mark Goodman got to the 6 days of the title sooner and built up Brigham Young (John Donovan Wilson) more as opposed to spending so much time with Smith. . . . I think for the target demographic Six Days in August is well made and tells an interesting period of LDS church history.”

I note that Rachel’s Reviews reviewed Witnesses in July 2021 and rated it 5.5/10 or “Smile Worthy (Barely).”

Rachel seems to be LDS or have an LDS background.

I need to check whether Sean Means intends to review the film. The Deserted News seems to have apostatized from the movie-reviewing business.

Just as long as you're actually giving your opinions about the movie, and not merely expressing contempt for the Church and/or personal disdain for me. I'm fine with that.

It's clear to me that at least one and maybe more of the reviews on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes come from a fairly easily identifiable individual who posts often on the Peterson Obsession Board. His themes and even his pseudonyms are both very distinct and very familiar.
I’ll testify to you, brethren, that I didn’t review Witnesses and I won’t review August. I’d like the film to fail or succeed on its own merits without petty review bombing. And I get the feeling most here feel the same.

Review bombing can happen on both sides of the believer/critic divide.

Unless critics are going to protest ouside theatres, there is no resonable critical equivalent of theatre stuffing, or manipulation of ticket sales vs. actual bums in seats.

As for me and my house, the raves on Rotten Tomatoes from two members of the Interpreter Foundation board are enough! ‘Tis enough, ‘tis enough! I could not feel more satisfied and at rest if the entire Interpreter Foundation board of directors had so raved.

That last photo of the Afore surprised me considerably. Surely he knew Oaks was coming, and he couldn't have put on a jacket and tie, at the very least?? Jeez. My SO dresses better than that to play golf.
Sloppy dress and sneakers is the trendy outfit for all the famous directors these days!
Ensure shoes are darker than your pants, socks match pants. It’s cool if you have black pants and black socks with small Mickey Mouse characters and a black tie with the same Mickey Mouse characters, or socks and ties with golf clubs, sail boats, umbrellas, etc that match your tie; pocket square matches your collar, not your tie.
