If you are reading this, Daniel, I am sorry things turned out this way. I hope it performs better on video. I am perplexed as to why more LDS folk are not opting to see these movies. I very much enjoyed Witnesses, and I hope to enjoy this film too, when I get access to it.“DCP” wrote: To the nearly giddy delight of several folks on the Peterson Obsession Board, Six Days in August has, thus far, considerably underperformed our hopes and expectations at the box office. As a consequence, it will probably not last much longer in theaters.
"I have learned with what evils tyranny infects a state. For it frustrates all the virtues, robs freedom of its lofty mood, and opens a school of fawning and terror, inasmuch as it leaves matters not to the wisdom of the laws, but to the angry whim of those who are in authority.”

Well, in Dan's defense, the Mormon God has not been any less effective at demonstrating His power than any other God.drumdude wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 2:40 pmI have to say that it is comforting evidence of the non-existence of the Mormon God. Mormon God, if they exist, has seen fit to make the movie perform exactly as it would in a Universe in which that God did not exist.“DCP” wrote: To the nearly giddy delight of several folks on the Peterson Obsession Board, Six Days in August has, thus far, considerably underperformed our hopes and expectations at the box office. The movie could have easily become a giant sleeper hit, with commentators raving about it. This wouldn’t on its own be enough to convert everyone to Mormonism, but it would be a miraculous event. Maybe even worthy of mention at the next general conference.
But that’s not the Universe we live in. Either Dan’s beliefs are false and Mormonism is false, or Mormon God has to remain so hidden that even his great works of art must be shunned and underperform. Dan is welcome to choose the latter view, but it seems to put his beliefs on shaky ground. Perhaps he can frame it as a personal test of his faith.

You don’t think Russell Nelson canceling a few trips in January 2020 was an effective demonstration?Fence Sitter wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 3:23 pmWell, in Dan's defense, the Mormon God has not been any less effective at demonstrating His power than any other God.drumdude wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 2:40 pm

I think these types of movies are far more suited for education and in the classroom. Or as homework for people studying this. It's not something that catches mainstream attention. I do think there will be people in other countries that are interested in watching it but it isn't available to see. Perhaps it might do better post cinema. Could they not be put on netflix or something?

Some sort of Mormon streaming service, with all the videos from the ward libraries would be worth paying for, in my opinion. Interpreter could create really high quality church videos.

You don’t just “put things on Netflix”. It’s not YouTube. Netflix has a fairly robust process for acquiring films and documentaries that align with their strategy and which they think will have appeal, even niche appeal. I suspect Interpreter doesn’t have the funds required to even pitch it to Netflix. And I don’t think Netflix wants a propaganda film on behalf of Mormonism.IWMP wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 4:09 pmI think these types of movies are far more suited for education and in the classroom. Can you imagine the panning it would get if unsuspecting members of the general public were to see it?
If making a return isn’t an objective (given how the last two films have performed, it now shouldn’t be an objective) then stream it via the Interpreter Website for a
Nominal fee, or stick it on YouTube and hope to get enough subscribers to monetise the channel.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

I don’t think Oaks saw 6DIA at its Premiere and thought “boy, we’ve got to get this content on LDS.org” do you? The Church is quite happy for other schmucks to run around making faith promoting films at their own or their donors expense. No risk, no financial expenditure, and if it’s a dog (it is) then the mud doesn’t stick to the Church. It’s exactly how the Church prefers to operate.drumdude wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 4:14 pm1000%IWMP wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 4:09 pmI think these types of movies are far more suited for education and in the classroom.
