Hi, Dr. Shades. Thank you for the response. A similar question was asked on another of my posts and I would say the same thing: when you watch or read something it either clicks or doesn't and if it doesn't then move on because there are a lot of other things to read or listen to, but as to Bridget Phetasy, she turns the craziness of today's American politics into comedy which for me is needed at times.
Hi Yellowstone, I am not familiar with Bridget Phetasy so found it difficult to know how to take this piece you linked. Well actually I found it frightening. She seemed to describe the end of reason when fear and anger devour us all. I could not convince myself that what she saw did not have some reality.
Hi Huck, I don’t think you should try to convince yourself otherwise. Jonathon Haight has an interesting piece in the Atlantic about the role of social media in American polarization. He keys on the two specific features: the like button and retweet button. Both allow false and incendiary content to spread like wildfire to millions of people without anyone taking a few minutes to find out if it is true.

Haidt says this problem has resulted in different problems among the right and left. On the left, the result has been cancel culture. On the right, the spreading of conspiracy theories have destroyed the institutions that allow us to have a functional government and society. The common element is that the spread of false or misleading information is unchecked by reason.

This should be worrying. And we shouldn’t try to normalize it.

ETA: The Haidt article is from 2022. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/ar ... el/629369/

Hi, Huckleberry. Thank you for the response. I wouldn’t take it too seriously. Bridget is a comedian so she’ll push certain thoughts to get views. She goes after the far-left and far-right just like the writers and comedians on Saturday Night Live. She has a team of writers who today don’t really need to write new stuff because every day the far-right and far-left spoon feed her/them new material.

Recently she said on a podcast she had three writers who said they were independents, three who said they were democrats and then her, and to me, she’s center-right.

In my view when someone posts something it either clicks or it doesn’t and that may just be how we are wired. God bless those who actually take extra time to see if something is there that they may be missing.

In a recent podcast Bridget did give a very touching ending about how the last time the comet that we see this month was visible, neanderthals were on the earth and the wheel hadn’t even been invented. She went on to say how blessed we really are these days compared to what our ancestors had to deal with for hundreds of thousands of years.

And like I have written before, in America we still have a Supreme Court, a House of Representatives and a Senate. Of course in each election the House and Senate can change to give one party a majority or maybe the House, Senate and the Presidency all are of the same party but then the Supreme Court can check and block what they try to implement if they believe the policy or new law violates the Constitution. I think Americans are lucky to have this type of system in place.

I might add that comedians are needed in the free world. They can make very good leaders when the need arises.

Thank you, Dr Shades. I’ll try better to explain these things on further threads when a name is mentioned.

On this four-minute and forty-nine second broadcast the comedian Bridget Phetasy comments about the current political climate, and whether Trump and his minions are able to put certain individual from the far-left on trains and send them to camps. She explores the thought in her unique and humorous way.

The comedian Bridget Phetasy explains on her ten-minute and thirty-five second Dumpster Fire broadcast who she is voting for and why. I think she echos the thoughts of a small minority who post on this board. I think many readers have similar thoughts but will never post because they don't want to set themselves up for a bad experience.

This video is seven-minutes and fifty-second long where a very shocked and saddened Marianne Williamson speaks to those in power today within the Democratic Party.

She is best known for embracing and writing about thoughts found in Helen Schucman's book, A Course In Miracles.

She has some good points, but her bit about incumbent presidents is, frankly, dumb.

I think that is a realist explanation of why a lot of people voted Trump. You know just prevent teaching about slavery and kids wont hate America and will keep liking Robert E Lee statues on top of tall heroic pillars.

I have some sympathy for her skepticism about value of transgender operations. Somehow it never crossed my mind that that would be solved by electing Trump.
