Dan misunderstands me, probably intentionally.“DCP” wrote:And they point out that I’m a mean-spirited, vicious, and dishonest buffoon, which leads them to believe that the ticket receipts represent a personal rebuke to me, a repudiation of me and all my works. But I strongly doubt that enough members of the movie-going public are aware of my personal repulsiveness for that fact to play a significant role in the movie’s less-than-stellar box office returns.
My argument is not that the moviegoers rebuked Dan. It’s that Mormon God rebuked Dan, in Dan’s fantasy worldview. When a Mormon’s life falls apart after leaving the church, Mormons believe it’s because they’re being punished. Likewise when a Mormon apologist starts making movies for their own personal edification, they are punished by Mormon God.
Mormon God is trying desperately to reach Dan and tell him to stop. But he can’t hear the still small voice, and still rationalizes the failure of his film.
Assuming Mormon God exists, which obviously it doesn’t.
