Harris spent Over One Billion? On What?

Post by ceeboo »

Believe me or not (I don't really care) I am not intending to pile on after the election results and/or am I attempting to squash low hanging fruit - Rather, I am interested in the perspectives/thoughts/opinions from the politically left-leaning members here - a.k.a. Harris supporters.

While reading some of the finger pointing that is going on within the DNC, I came across the following.

Table setting -Short version: Harris went through 1 billion dollars (and, as of now, is around 18 million is debt) from the campaign.

A couple examples of where the money went :One million to Oprah (Oprah's Harpo Productions) for the town hall Oprah did with Harris - 15 million on "event productions" (Lady Gaga - Katy Perry - M&M)

If this is true (I don't know that this is true) - Isn't this like a Hollywood production? Paying celebrities to endorse? I would have thought that people like Oprah, who wanted to save democracy, would have done the townhall for free and I was a bit shocked to learn what her fee was (and that she took it)

Personally, I have a lot more to say about all of this, but I will resist in order to see what any of you think.

They had a small window in which they might generate excitement. They pulled out all the stops. It was expensive. End of story.

Hey Kish (Thanks for the reply)

Any thoughts on, for example, Oprah taking a million dollars? (If true)

I've learned that it is not really worth discussing anything with some people unless the statements they want to discuss are verified as factual.

With that in mind, if you don't know if something is true, please fact check it before presenting it for discussion. I'm curious what your original source was for this story, and I'm curious what you find out when you do a legitimate fact check.

I have no idea how much was spent, but whatever it was, I would have dumped all of the conventional spending and put it into robo calls and text messages. Everyone has a phone, and getting those few seconds over and over again right in peoples faces is likely the most effective marketing strategy. "Trump has a plan to raise the cost of beef!" basically, just make things up like team Trump does. "Trump and vance initiate bill mandating man/couch relations!"

According to Winfrey, the story isn’t factual.

I’m waiting for Ceeboo to become enraged that a billionaire who controls a major media outlet and who has numerous potential government contracts pending with the incoming Administration pumped more than $100 million dollars into that candidate’s campaign.

But, priorities, right?

Here is the link to the FEC website.

If you scroll down a bit, you'll find that Harpo Productions, Inc., one of Oprah's companies, got $1 Million.

It does make sense. I would imagine that a candidate town hall meeting isn’t running staff, security, facilities and food on a volunteer basis.

At least Harris’ team seems to pay their bills. : D

For "event production."

Ceeboo, not knowing if it was true, asked this:
...Paying celebrities to endorse? I would have thought that people like Oprah, who wanted to save democracy, would have done the townhall for free and I was a bit shocked to learn what her fee was (and that she took it)...
and, still not knowing if it was true and when the conversation started moving toward facts, posted again,
...Any thoughts on, for example, Oprah taking a million dollars?...
Oprah did not take a million dollars for her fee, as canpakes noted and according to Winfrey; Harpo productions received a million for event production.

Do you think ceeboo's 'ooh, if true (and I don't really know), how about this juicy bit of gossip??' post accurately represented the facts of the situation?

Fact checking before passing on rumors is a simple thing. Blind gullibility is easier, apparently.

Ceeboo probably has no issue with the following…
Melania Trump has barely been seen on the campaign trail this year. One of the few times she has appeared at a political event, she’s received a six-figure paycheck – a highly unusual move for the spouse of a candidate.
https://edition.cnn.com/2024/09/23/poli ... index.html
The former first lady spoke at two political fundraisers for the Log Cabin Republicans this year, and she was paid $237,500 for an April event, according to former President Donald Trump’s latest financial disclosure form. The payment was listed as a “speaking engagement.”

Trump’s latest disclosure form said Melania Trump was paid by the Log Cabin Republicans for the April fundraiser. But it’s a mystery who actually cut the check: Charles Moran, president of the Log Cabin Republicans, told CNN earlier this month the group did not put up the money for her to speak, and the disclosure form did not give any more information about the source of the payment.

Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.
