With Smithmas now less than three weeks away, I wish to share some favorite hymns and carols appropriate to be sung during the Smithmas season. With Christmas becoming increasingly commercialized, it’s nice that there is a religious holiday that hasn’t been so tainted.
“Ode for Joseph" (Bradshaw)
Joseph.
Joseph.
Of his name has been spoken, good and evil among all people.
Yet unto us. Yet unto us. Yet unto us. He restored the gospel of Christ our Savior.
“We praise ye” is a grammatical error. “Ye” and “you” are to each other as “I” and “me”. “They praise I” is wrong; it has to be, “They praise me.” In the same way it has to be, “We praise you.”
And why is Smith plural, anyway? There is a plural form for addressing majesty, but it’s even more archaic than thou and thee—and thou and thee have always been considered sufficient for addressing God. So they should be fine for Mr Smith, if we want to sound old-fashioned.
Anyway you slice it, “ye” is just wrong.

The first sacrament service I attended, Praise to the Man was the first song that morning. I was thinking, “I’m getting the full LDS experience this morning.”
I did enjoy the Christmas crèche service I attended.
"Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy” Jude 1:24
“the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 ESV

Was baby Jesus or baby Joseph lying in the manger?
“But if you are told by your leader to do a thing, do it. None of your business whether it is right or wrong.” Heber C. Kimball, 8 Nov. 1857

Probably baby Jesus. I enjoyed seeing all the displayed nativities.

Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus anointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.
Praise to his mem’ry, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assassins,
Plead unto heav’n while the earth lauds his fame.
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.
Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true, he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.
Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven; Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know “Brother Joseph” again.

Smithmas is going to be great this year. I’m almost finished sculpting a life size statue of Brother Joseph out of butter, donated entirely from the widows living in Parowan, UT.
If any of you are interested, it will be displayed on Smithmas in the Cassius University’s faculty lounge.
In his first lecture pertaining to Smith, Woolley expounded on Smith’s infamous “Would to God” statement. He explained:
J.S. repeated the statement—“‘Would to God I could tell you who I am.’ The saints are not yet prepared to know their Prophet leader.” Joseph S. is probably a literal descendent of Jesus Christ of Jewish and Ephraim lineage, the blood of Judah probably predominating—the ruling power. . . . Adam at head of Adamic dispensation; Christ at head of dispensation of the Meridian of Times and Joseph at the head of the last dispensation. “Would to God I could tell you who I am!” Being a God, he is mingling with Gods and planning for his brethren.[11]

Great hymn. I confess, though, that I prefer “Stain Illinois” in the last line of the second verse.
