Muslims praying in a relief society room with images of Christ covered

Post by drumdude »

I thought this was an interesting image to post:

It’s a bit sad that so many conservative Mormons are upset by it. To his credit DCP is defending it on his Facebook page. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I wish more Mormons were as progressive and tolerant as DCP is when it comes to Islam.

I think this is ok. I don't think it's necessarily to insult Jesus, I wouldn't automatically assume that. I went to a predominantly Muslim school in a predominantly Muslim city and they were very tolerant of my Mormonism but they don't do images like that. These are considered as idols. They don't draw God or their prophet. If I recall correctly. I think that is probably why.

ETA: it could be because they believe Jesus to be a prophet and are hiding him for negative reasons but I'm pretty sure they have issue with making images.

My daughter sent me a link to the site X in which fascist Mormons castigated these invited Muslim worshipers with hateful taunts and found fault with them covering up a photo of either Jesus or Joseph. Muslims do not go in for religious iconography. It's disturbing, but X is the new hangout for this type of Saints.

Assuming for a moment that the covered picture was of Jesus, and that the image hasn't been manipulated by A.I....what would have been the result of posting an image of a group of Muslim men appearing to pray to a picture of Mormon's version of Jesus?

The image seems to be of a story that was published in Australia in 2015. If someone has regurgitated it on Facebook to try and stir up some fuss then they are trolling and should be treated as such. The members in Brisbane have done absolutely nothing wrong.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Yeah, I think Twitter was the name of X back in 2015-17 (or whenever this photo was taken). Elon Musk changed the name to make it more suitable for himself, Trump, and as a global platform for fascist thinking. I think he refers to it as Free Speech for Das Herrenvok and Afrikaners.

Wish we knew the background of this story. Obviously, the Saints in Brisbane have a kinder and more Christ-like outlook than their Jell-O Belt counterparts.

I think it used to be the room that all the adult women had their meeting for 3rd hour. I remember it being used a lot for baptisms (the font was in the same room) and for 2nd hour gospel principle classes. It had a piano which made it a good room for musical stuff, I think I’ve seen a video of DCP giving a talk in one.

Mostly a general purpose room, but since the older men get a high priest room, the relief society also gets their own room.

It’s been almost 10 years since I’ve been in a meetinghouse. I wonder if those rooms aren’t universal to all of them?
