Those who wish to celebrate Smithmas with a movie and movie popcorn may wish to head to the Kaysville Theatre in downtown Kaysville, Utah, on Monday night. Tickets are only $1.
The entire FAIR Masonic Lodge and the gang from Interpreter should journey to Kaysville and make this a festive Smithmas celebration.

Happy Boxing Day, friends! On this fine day, I regret to report that the box office run of Six Days appears to have ended. The film spent its final days in a single theater, located in Kaysville, Utah, where it had its final showing, appropriately enough, on Smithmas. I don’t believe that was a mere coincidence. (Perhaps it means that the church that traces its lineage through Joseph Smith’s descendants, Community of Christ, is the true church, but I digress.)

For those keeping track at home, it appears that the movie was in theaters for 74 days and grossed at least $387,659. (Box Office Mojo doesn’t report any box office numbers after December 2.) Finally, Six Days was replaced in the Kaysville theater with a big holiday movie from Hollywood called The Red One (plot description from IMDB: “After Santa Claus is kidnapped, the North Pole's Head of Security must team up with a notorious hacker in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas”). In this connection, I am reminded of something the Co-Executive Producer of Six Days wrote several months ago:
Our window is, we calculate, rather small, because the big holiday movies from Hollywood will begin to be released in not too many weeks from now. (I began seeing Christmas-themed commercials on television already in mid-August.) That will put pressure on theaters to find screens for them, and movies that haven’t done well, or that (as all movies eventually do) have begun to fade, will necessarily surrender screens to the new potential hit films.
Oh well. Today I plan to rewatch Witnesses online in memory of Six Days. (I am thankful that the Interpreter Foundation has made the former film available for free viewing.)

There must be something symbolic about Smithmas killing the Brigham movie. Poetic justice?

I wonder what would have been if the film had gone in a less saccharine direction. Historical dramas are quite popular across television and film. But audiences tend to prefer drama, conflict, and complex characters.

Dan wanted to show Brigham at his best, but unfortunately that led to a very 2 dimensional character. Just as flat as Joseph. I suppose Dan thought Brigham’s flaws had already been discussed elsewhere ad nauseum. But if he had weaved them into the story, it would have been much more engaging (in my opinion.)

Perhaps in the future we will get more balanced films about Joseph and Brigham, which would appeal to more than just an LDS audience. I think the average moviegoer would be as excited by the history as we are.

Mark my words, Six Days in August will be remembered as the Reefer Madness of Mormon themed films, to be laughed and cackled at (by Mormons and non-Mormons) for years to come.

For the Afore's third film, I would love to see him tackle a lessor known aspect of Church history. Maybe a film about Cain's appearances to early LDS members, his appearance at the Laie Temple and thousands of recent sightings along the Wasatch Front?

It would put butts in the movie seats, guaranteed. Maybe title the film, Cain's Not Dead?

Got to watch Red One on Christmas. That was fun. It combined Santa with the European Krampus tradition (like Jesus and Joseph). We watched another Christmas movie Tokyo Godfathers the night before.

Iceland has 13 days of Christmas, because of Gryla's children, the Yule Lads.
