Trump Desires to be Sued Over Birthright Citizenship, Does Anyone Understand Why?
Trump shows little concern for birthright citizenship. He indeed hopes that the supreme court will uphold the 14th amendment. Can anyone explain why he introduced the topic of birthright citizenship so early in his campaign?

The original intent of the amendment has been taken advantage of, it was written after the Civil War for freed slaves, and he wants the Supreme Court to revisit it and make a decision, at least from what I have read.
Ironically, as I am writing this I am listening to the news on TV, and this just came up. A constitutional lawyer, Katie Cherasky, is stating that the Supreme Court has never offered a decision on this, and there is no precedence, and IHO Trump wants the court to hear this.
This will be an interesting one for sure.

It would be nice if it's retroactive, then I can call ICE on my right-wing friend and his wife who, like Markk, spent election night on their knees praying for a Trump victory. 3/4 of their collective parents were illegals.

It is hard to imagine the Trump Court will support the Constitution.

Your perspective is interesting and may hold some truth, yet I believe Trump enacted this executive order at the earliest opportunity for a calculated purpose related to the upcoming 2026 election.Markk wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 4:13 pmThe original intent of the amendment has been taken advantage of, it was written after the Civil War for freed slaves, and he wants the Supreme Court to revisit it and make a decision, at least from what I have read.

Essentially, my point is that he desires the Democrats to oppose him fiercely all the way to the Supreme Court. He aims to be defeated in the supreme court. Additionally, I believe that when a judge ruled against his executive order, he and his team celebrated by popping a bottle of non-alcoholic champagne or perhaps some diet coke, viewing it as a victory.
The most detrimental action the Democrats could take is to engage in a two-year battle with Trump over this matter. He is likely to face defeat in the courts, but that doesn't concern him, his primary focus is on winning the support of American voters to bolster Republican representation in both the Senate and the House in 2026. Do you think that makes sense?
It appears that Democrats no longer fully consider these issues. It seems they have yet to grasp that Trump focuses primarily on optics and influencing the American electorate. In my opinion they got played.

This is neither unexpected or misunderstood. Those optics and this strategy of division by Trump are already factored into the conversation. Another good example is the ‘immigrants are eating your dogs and cats’ theme.Hound of Heaven wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 4:49 pmYour perspective is interesting and may hold some truth, yet I believe Trump enacted this executive order at the earliest opportunity for a calculated purpose related to the upcoming 2026 election.

At the end of the day, though, folks will have to decide if we view the Constitution and the process as something that should be properly maintained, as opposed to allowing a random person to change what he or she doesn’t like on a whim, or allowing it to be used as a plaything to drum up artificial rage in the pursuit of votes.
Take your stand accordingly.

It is certainly a political fire cracker, but I believe that Trump hopes the the Supreme Court makes a decision that does not allow any foreign national to come here either pregnant, or get pregnant here and then here, give birth to an automatic citizen. It was not the intent of the amendment from what I have read, which is not much yet.
Yours is an interesting scenario, we will see. Keep in mind that the president can't change an amendment with an executive order.

That’s the issue. It really doesn’t matter what the subject of the executive order is; if a President wanted lo make slavery legal again, they couldn’t do it with an executive order. There’s a process for changing the Constitution. I respect those individuals willing to ensure that it’s followed regardless of outcome, instead of allowing manipulative chaos to become the standard. That’s our duty as Americans, especially when some among us will want to use it as a weapon.
Otherwise, why bother to have a Constitution in the first place?

I recognize that my perspective may not resonate with most Democrats, and I acknowledge that I currently hold a minority view. However, I am optimistic that someone like Fetterman will step forward and engage in a meaningful dialogue with the Democratic Party. Clearly, Trump achieved significant success by focusing on border security and the deportation of illegal immigrants. Some polls indicate that as many as 70% of Americans are in agreement with him.canpakes wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:15 pmThis is neither unexpected or misunderstood. Trump recognizes that prompting the Democrats to resist any efforts related to border closure or the deportation of undocumented individuals is a strategic advantage for the Republicans. Instead of recognizing this reality, Democrats are allowing him to hit them over the head with the 14th Amendment issue, asserting that they prioritize illegal immigrants and their anchor babies over the American people.
If Democrats were to engage in thoughtful consideration rather than their typical reactionary approach to Trump, they might choose to distance themselves from Biden and Kamala, attributing the border issues solely to them, and offer an apology to the American people, pledging to collaborate with Trump on addressing the border crisis. This would enable them to develop their own comprehensive border plan rather than being perceived as lacking any border strategy altogether!
Creating a Democratic border plan for 2026 would enable Democrats to campaign on their own strategy, positioning them as advocates for the American people rather than as perpetual opponents of Trump.
What are the odds of that occurring? That necessitates acknowledging failure, and the current group of self-important individuals leading the party will never concede that Trump outperformed them.

Noted that you expect that an illegal action should go unchallenged if committed by a favored politician or party.Hound of Heaven wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 6:03 pmI recognize that my perspective may not resonate with most Democrats, and I acknowledge that I currently hold a minority view.
