Changing church depictions of the translation process

It seems to be a bit, “one step forward, two steps back”.

Joseph didn’t have the plates next to him, and he had his head fully inside the hat to block out the light in order to supposedly read the text on the peep stone. The same stone he used for his treasure digging scam.

Also, the accompanying text says how miraculous it is that he was able to translate with so little schooling. But Joseph’s education is irrelevant, requiring only the ability to read one word at a time from a glowing stone. The text also implies that the words on the plates corresponded directly to the translation, which we know from the Book of Abraham process was unlikely to be the case even if these plates existed.

Like I said, one step forward in honesty, and two steps back.

Evidence the Mormon church is indeed a marvelous work and wonder - The Book of Mormon. Evidence the Book of Mormon is everything it says it is - The miraculous way it came forth. Evidence it came forth in a miraculous way - Joseph was to stoopid to have done it himself.

There's some cache to the plates having been 'gold.' Would their have been less people join the Mormon church if they were just bronze?

Isn’t it amazing that over 20 years ago, South Park managed to be accurate in its depiction of the “translation” process? Now, decades later, the Church is still struggling to be honest in its portrayal.
