Zosimus Geography Questions from MAD Board

Post by Moksha »

We've had plenty of discussions about the geography of the Book of Mormon, but how about the Book of Moses?

Where was the Valley of Shum? The land of Sharon, and the land of Enoch, and the land of Omner, and the land of Heni, and the land of Shem, and the land of Haner, and the land of Hanannihah?

The Land of Shem and Omner are also toponyms in the Book of Mormon, are they the same?

All of it was in the imagination of Joseph Smith who creatively made stuff up for his new novel about people who lived on the other side of the flood.

During the lifetime of Adam, the earth was of one language and patriarchal reign was known among all peoples. We are informed in Smith’s Book of Moses (chapter 7) that there were warring peoples who were tent dwellers during Enoch’s ministry who inhabited the lands. The people of Shum dwelled in a valley and the people of Canaan to the north, the latter of which were cursed with black skin being despised by all (white) people. The Canaanites were cursed and forced to live in an arid land subject to heat and barrenness.

This is a great potential moneymaker for cruise lady. Just make up any location and get some Mopologists on board to hypothesize about the Jaredites sailing through the local waters.

Robert Boylan is always looking to make a quick buck. I think he should seriously consider it.

The poster Zosimus over at the MAD board kinda reminds me of Uncle Dale in his knowledge of all things church history related, which is not a good thing for those wannabe church apologist.

It is an adjunct to the new Gulf of America.

What will the scholarly and precision-based Zosimus make of poster Pyreaux's apologist-based language and history assertions?

I had totally forgotten about this. That the curse of Cain is the black skin, and that it is not just - less valient in the pre-land, Mormon lore - but actually down in the Mormon holy writings.

I wonder why this nonsense doesn't get as much air-time as the black skin nonsense in the Book of Mormon?

I realize I had forgotten that material in Joseph Smith Moses. Plainly links Cain to dark skin. The whole book is a bit of a stretch so it may get a bit forgotten. More reason not to expect any apologies from the church. It will remain doctrine that the ban was right and necessary but reached its proper time to end.

Oh, so "Zosimus" is a person.

In this case, adding an apostrophe + s at the end of the word "Zosimus" would've made the name possessive and therefore less confusing, Moksha.

Also, Moksha, Universal Rule #6 of this message board reads, "'Cross-posting' from other message boards is allowed. Feel free. If you do this--or if you just mention content hosted at another site--always provide a link to that content so people can find out just what it is you're talking about."

Therefore, the helpful link that dantana posted, specifically https://www.mormondialogue.org/topic/76 ... geography/, should've been posted by you in your opening post.

A little bit of attention to detail helps those of us who don't visit other message boards, Moksha.
