This isn’t generally how it works in the States, but it is the work ethic that ajax has long complained we should reinstate. Especially that the US should get rid of notions of a particular ‘retirement’ age, more or less, and that it should certainly not subsidize any retirement via Social Security.

As such, the phrasing, “the way we’ve had to do” is peculiar and sounds as if this claimed result isn’t desired after all.
